Harvey Seidel Obituary

Harvey D Seidel, 89, of Wernersville, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023, in Phoebe Berks Born on April 20, 1934, in Ruscombmanor, PA, he was the son of William Jefferson Seidel and Lydia (Reis) Seidel. Harvey was a graduate of Muhlenberg H.S. and Capital Radio Engineering Institute (CREI), Washington DC. Between these two educational stints, Harvey joined the Air Force. While in the Air Force where he was an Airman 1st Class stationed in Toul-Rosieres Air Base, France, he met what would become the love of his life, Renee Assayag. Renee predeceased Harvey in death by 11 days. He was heartbroken with the loss of Renee, his wife of 67 years, never spending more than 1 week apart in all those years together. Harvey was employed by Bell Labs, Reading Works, for 33 years where he jointly held a patent with other Bell Lab colleagues. (Patent # 3,717,790.) Harvey retired early to spend the rest of his life with Renee, traveling the world for the next 30 years. Harvey is survived by his sons, Eric W. and Bruce, husband of Kenda K. (Kohl). Also surviving were the prides of his already full life, his grandchildren, Amanda Chase, wife of Cody, Jared Seidel, and Air Force Pilot 1st Lt. Andrew Seidel, Jordan Seidel, partner of Maite Bermudez, Mindy Seidel, wife of Maria Adams, and Josh Seidel, partner of Kylie Martinson. Also surviving are his great grandson Parker Chase, siblings MaryEllen, Elizabeth and William. He was predeceased by his brother Eugene and sisters Erma Mae and Betty Lu. He thoroughly enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and flower beds, making sure that the vegetable garden, flower beds and yard were always pristine and immaculate. He passed this attention to detail (some might say too much attention to detail) to his sons, with Eric endeavoring to mirror his passion for gardening. He also taught them the basics and common sense and for that his sons are extremely grateful. For the past 9 years, Harvey and Renee wandered the halls of Phoebe Berks, making new friends wherever they went. Anyone who knew Harvey and Renee always knew they would always be together, and, in the end, all were proven correct. Thank you to the staff at Phoebe Berks for your constant upbeat and professional manner in how you treat all residents. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice in memory of Harvey. Services will be at Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Shillington at 10AM on August 31st.

Harvey was in my life for 3 years when I worked at Phoebe and I am so lucky to have had that time with him. He didn´t want to be here without Renee. Rest peacefully my friend!

My deepest sympathies to
your families and friends.
They both have been a beautiful loving couple with a great sense of humor.
I will miss them.
My French will never be good enough , but it was fun learning.
Deepest sympathies,
