He was the husband of Marguerite E. (Sprankle) Davies, also deceased.
He graduated from Wilson High School and Gettysburg College and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He served as chairman of the House Education Committee and was a member of the State Board of Education. He remained politically active until the end of his life as a Republican committeeman.

Mr. Davies my favorite teacher at Kutztown and instilled my love of history. I was also blessed to work with Rep. Davies during his years in the Pennsylvania General Assembly in my role as a lobbyist. I always admired the pencil sketch he did of President Lincoln that hung in his Harrisburg office. Thank you for your dedication and service as a teacher and legislator. My deepest sympathies to his family as those who knew him appreciate your great loss.

Yes, I have very fond memories of Coach Davies from the late 60's, when he coached me at Wilson High School. Probably the main reason that I was able to receive the first college scholarship for a soccer player from Wilson. He had some great expressions, and we shared many a laugh. He was a good man, I am very glad to have had him as a coach and friend. Deepest sympathies to the family. Randy

John was one of the most respected members of the House and I was proud every time he rose to speak. He was a man of leadership, dignity and loyalty. I'm certain when he got to heaven, the first thing he asked God was for permission for the men to remove their jackets.

Mr. Davis was one teacher that taught me something I could use in the real world. Kutztown High.

Coach Davies was always a friend to his players. To remember the long practices, his favorite expression of "move your dogs!" and the talks after the high school years will always be a fond memory.
