He was the husband of Margaret L. “Peggy” (Hench) Grossman. They were married May 29, 1948.
Born Jan. 20, 1925, in Selinsgrove, Snyder County, he was a son of the late Luther D. and Mildred E. (Goulding) Grossman.
Dr. Grossman was a professor of art at Kutztown University for 29 years, until his retirement in 1987. He served as chairman of the College of Art for three years.
He received a bachelor of arts in art education from Kutztown University in 1949. He also received a bachelor of science in engineering from Northwestern University, Chicago, in 1947; and a master of arts in art education from Columbia University, New York, in 1951. He completed his doctorate in education in 1969 at Penn State University, University Park.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kutztown. Formerly, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Topton, where he was a past president of church council and a member of the choir.
Dr. Grossman was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Millersburg Lodge 364, F&AM.
Jack was an accomplished artist, working in watercolor and oil paintings. His paintings included many Berks County landscapes and farmsteads. His works also included scenes from his travels in the United States and abroad since 1946. For the last 20 years, he was an avid collector of antique tools.
Also surviving are a daughter, Beverly J. (Grossman), wife of Glenn W. Godshall, Kutztown; and two sons, the Rev. Randall A., husband of Nancy E. (Jensen) Grossman, Reading; and Michael J., husband of Ellen M. (Hahn) Grossman, Topton.
Other survivors include a sister, Dorothy H. (Grossman), widow of Morton Jones, Langhorne, Bucks County.
There are also nine grandchildren: Marci B. Grossman; Miriam E. (Grossman), wife of Gregory B. Fairbanks; Elizabeth A. (Godshall), wife of Joseph S.A. Pieller; Laura L. (Godshall), wife of Derek M. McElwain; Sarah K. Grossman; Dana K. Godshall, fiancee of Joshua A. Angstadt; Olivia K. Grossman; Meredith E. Grossman; and Leslie E. Grossman; and a great-granddaughter, Savannah B. Pieller.
Dr. Grossman was predeceased by a son, Robert L. Grossman, in 1995.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 W. Main St., Kutztown, with the Rev. Keith K. Rohrbach officiating. Burial with military honors provided by Ray A. Master, Post 217, American Legion, Topton, in Fairview Cemetery, Kutztown, will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Wednesday 7 to 9 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church.

Dr. Grossman was my first contact with KSC as a scared transfer student. He was my advisor and teacher for at least one class. He was very kind and fatherly and put me at ease from the start. I remember his cheerful, encouraging and folksy manner. He had a positive impact on my college life.

Jack was a huge influence to me growing up in Topton, and to this day, I still remember some of the great things he taught me about art, music, scouting, and life in general. He was truly a great man.
