Lew Schnader

Lew Schnader Lew Schnader, 92, of Towson MD, formerly of West Lawn, passed away on December 22, 2021 at Brightview Senior Living Center in Towson, MD. He was the loving husband to Mary M. (Humphreys) for 63 years before her passing in March 24, 2017. Born in Shillington, Lew was the son of the late William Richard and Caroline (Schmeck) Schnader. Lew was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent many days at Blue Marsh, running his beagle hounds and chatted with the regular visitors to the lake. When not engaged in these pursuits, Lew could be found in his vegetable garden, working on his car, or playing cards. He had a song and a story for every occasion. Lew had a 22 year military career (1948-1970), first serving his country in the Navy for ten years before transferring to the Air Force. While in the Navy, his assignments included The Naval Dept., Washington, D.C.; The Naval Attache, Paris, France; and CINCHELM, London, England. He proudly served on the USS Adirondack (Italy), USS Coral Sea (Mediterranean), and the USS Bon Homme Richard (California). While in the Air Force he was assigned to Clinton Sherman AFB,Oklahoma; Shu Lin Kou AFB, Taiwan; Offutt AFB, Nebraska; and RAF Chicksands, England. Lew went on to retire from the US Postal Service as a mail handler. Lew is survived by his children, John William Schnader, husband of Marianne, of Milton VT, Carolyn M. Miller, wife of Michael, of Ephrata, Valen Lew Schnader, husband of Nancy, of Timonium MD, his grandchildren, Stephanie Kell, James Schnader, Nathaniel Miller, and Jennifer Miller. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Tessa Kell, and Abby Kell. In addition to his wife Mary, Lew is predeceased by his siblings, William Schnader, Victoria Gage, Edwin Schnader, and Vincent Schnader. Interment will be held privately at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A Memorial of Lew’s life will be held at a later date to be announced in 2022.
