John attended University High School in Bloomington, where he excelled academically and athletically. He later earned a football scholarship to the University of South Carolina, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Business.
Following graduation, John began his business career with Ford Motor Credit Corporation. After three years with Ford, he joined Riegel Textile's Consumer Products Division in Johnston, South Carolina. His success in sales quickly led to advancement into marketing and product management, and he was ultimately promoted to Sales and Marketing Director and later President of the division. Under his leadership, the Consumer Products Division grew to $100 million in revenue and became a major national supplier to retailers including Sears, Kmart, Walmart, Target, and numerous regional chains across the United States.

He then continued his career in the knitting industry as Senior Operations Manager with Miller Manufacturing Company in Reading, Pennsylvania.
John was later recruited to expand 3-I Incorporated in South Carolina, where he developed a complete supply chain in Mexico, including knitting, sewing manufacturing, distribution, and product development.
An additional opportunity brought John to Ameripride Services in Minnetonka, Minnesota, where he was recruited to establish a catalog center and develop a product line for the company's North American operations. After successfully launching the catalog center, he was promoted to Senior Manager in Corporate Procurement. In this role, he oversaw apparel planning with U.S. vendors, worked closely with Ameripride's Chinese manufacturing facility, and managed all aspects of apparel centers and new garment distribution. He also established an in-house embroidery center to support customized garments for Ameripride's North American plants.
Throughout his illustrious career, John was known for his leadership, strong work ethic, and ability to build and grow successful organizations.
