Tully and Deb,
Phyllis and I send our deepest condolences and prayers to you and your family. Tully, you surely remember when I first met you and Mike. I was recently discharged from the Navy and working at the Acme in West Reading. Twice each day I crossed Penn Avenue to enjoy my breaks at Joe's luncheonette. Joe, familiar with nurses visiting from the Reading Hospital, decided I should meet Phyllis, who expressed reluctance to go on a blind date. You and Mike first met with me to determine if Phyllis should accept meeting me. At that first meeting, I thoroughly liked Mike. He was interesting and humorous simultaneously. You both convinced Phyllis to meet me. That was fifty-six years ago. As the saying goes, The rest is history.
Our friendship continued after that first meeting, enabling me to meet the wonderful ladies from Schuylkill and Lebanon Counties, R.N.s in the same graduating class at The Reading Hospital with Phyllis. I remember waiting with Mike almost every evening for you and Phyllis to finish work so that we could go on a dinner date. During those times, I really got to know and admire Mike's sense of humor and his easy acceptance of those embracing beliefs, religious or political, that did not always coincide with his own. It was my honor to be Mike's Best Man at your wedding. I also appreciated his being Best Man when Phyllis and I married.
Tully, I know Mike truly loved you and daughters Deborah and Sharon. Without question his grandchildren added joy to his life. Mike lived a wonderful life spent in extending to others acceptance that made them enjoy his presence. While he will be missed, he will not be forgotten.
