He was the husband of Dorothy “Pokey” Elizabeth (Bobal) Krize, whom he married Aug. 18, 1975.
Born Sept. 21, 1947, in Laureldale, he was a son of the late Robert Daniel and Jeannine Anna (Aulenbach) Krize.
Dan was a 1965 graduate of Muhlenberg High School. He graduated from Kutztown University in 1969 with a bachelor of science degree in secondary education and again in 1972 with a master of education in social studies.
Mr. Krize taught seventh grade social studies in Muhlenberg School District for 35 years until retiring in 2004. During his professional tenure, he served the school in several other capacities, including interim assistant principal. For many years, he was the coach of the boys and girls bowling teams, helping them to win several county titles.
Upon retirement, Dan served as a member of Muhlenberg School Board and vice chairman of the board of Reading-Muhlenberg Career & Technology Center.
He was also a member of Lions Club of Muhlenberg; Muhlenberg Athletic Boosters; Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees; Berks County Association of School Retirees; and National School Boards Association. He also proctored GED testing at Reading Area Community College.
Dan was also a past director of the Goodwill (Fire Company) and Beneficial Association and a board member of Muhlenberg Swimming Association.
Dan was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State football. He enjoyed supporting all Muhlenberg sports teams and extracurricular activities, attending all types of competitions and events through the years.
Most of all, Dan enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved gathering with those he cared about, to talk, catch up and share stories. Most recently, he enjoyed traveling with other retired Muhlenberg staff.

I knew Daniel Krize as a youngster growing up in Laureldale. Daniel was always friendly to all of the kids in the neighborhood. Daniel was truly a "model" child in every way - I respected him very much.
I am sorry to hear about Daniel - I want his wife and children to know how much I admired Daniel. I am not surprised to hear all positive things about Mr. Krize - "the teacher."
Sincerely,

It's been about 20 years since Mr. Krize was my teacher, but to this day I remember him as one of the very best I've ever had. There are too few who so clearly love their work as he did, and I know the sentiment is shared by countless Muhlenberg students. He was a wonderful teacher, and a wonderfully kind and nice man who will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with you all.

Dear Mrs. Krize & family
I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Krize's passing. I was truly shocked by the news. I had just seen him at market a few weeks ago and asked him to tell you how much I missed walking and talking with you at the gym.
As he left he flashed one of his big warm smiles and his eyes shown with that little glimmer that all naughty boys who grew up to be good men have.
He was a wonderful and fair teacher. He treated all kids as I imagine he did Tara and the other girls. The profession needs more teachers like the two of you.
God Bless You & Be With You
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayer

To the Krize family,
It been over 40 years since Dan, Steve and Jon played Monopoly on my front porch, along with some other friends of ours that have passed - Tim Braun and Herbie. I miss those times, the friendships. My dad who is 90, called me about Dan. Though we all have been out of touch for all these years, parents are the one thread that keep us informed about old times and friends. My thoughts are with you all.
Sincerely, Ron Schweitzer

To Pokey and girls,
Dan was such a wonderful person in everything he did-husband, father, teacher, school board member. Although I didn't get to spend a lot of time with Dan, we traveled together on Barb's trip to Europe and I admired his sincere concern for the Muhlenberg School District at school board meetings. Whenever I would see Dan he had a smile on his face. He was so sincerely friendly and fun to be around. You need to know that Dan will be truly missed by all here on earth, but that he will always be with you in spirit! After just losing my dad, the poem I posted has so much meaning to me at this time. Hopefully it will bring comfort to you as well.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Mr. Krize was one of those teachers that truly touched my life, and the life of many. I remember walking down the hall and always seeing his welcoming smile. Even after I was no longer one of his students I would frequent his class room.
Whether in the halls of Muhlenberg, the streets of the community or the waters of the pool, he was a person you genuinely wanted to be in the company of. His lessons will carry on for many years.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends.

I’d like to express my deepest sympathy for Mr. Krize’s wife, daughters, brothers, and the rest of the family.
I knew Mr. Krize as my seventh grade teacher, then as a colleague at MSA (he wrote a recommendation letter that got me my first job), and then as my close friend’s uncle. He has touched and affected so many lives and always made geography fun and relevant. I remember him having one very specific discussion with us about getting involved and making the rest of our years at Muhlenberg memorable – I’m so glad I took his advice. He took the time to get to know his students and remembered them over the years…he was interested in what we did with our lives, which is truly special and very touching. The last time I saw him last summer he asked what I was up to – when I told him I was teaching at Reading High, he talked to me about how special it is to be a teacher and work with kids. I wish I would have taken that opportunity to thank him for being so effective, influential, and inspirational.
This is such as unexpected tragedy and a true loss for everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time.

I graduated from Muhlenberg in 1984 and I also was a member of the Muhlenberg Swimming Assoc. I had Mr Krize as a teacher and 20 years later I still remember him. He was well liked by MANY. He was the kind of person that went out his way to say hello to people. Sometimes I wondered if he really remembered all of our names and to my surprise he knew more than your name, he could recite specifics " you were class of...., your sister was ....".
HE never forgot and HE will never be forgotton.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Krize family from the Lyons family. I remember Danny Krize quite well as a youth. We were teammates on the baseball team at C. E. Cole my junior year. I also played on the same Mighty Mite baseball team in 7th grade with his younger brother, Steve with Coach Buzz Manwiller. One of the stories I like to tell about my days at Cole were when we had baseball practice on the field where the new elementary school is now in front of Cole. My father, who was a salesman had his own schedule and watched our practices after school. He parked on the grass at Cole near Kutztown Road but not too far from the baseball diamond. My Dad was sitting on our old red Corvair when Danny Krize was up to bat and hit a very long and high fly ball that seemed to target our car. My father jumped away quickly as the ball hit and caromed off the roof of the car. Danny came over to me and profusely apologized. I told him no need to, my father was OK, the car was OK and it was a nice hit, too. I always admired him for apologizing, though. Most everyone else at that age would have been laughing at the sight of our car being hit. Danny Krize was a real stand-up guy. I will remember him always and very fondly.
