at Phoebe Berks Healthcare Center,
Wernersville. He was the widower of Nancy May (Stafford) Schearer who died January 2, 2013. Born June 30, 1929 in Reading, he was a son of the late John Henry and Margaret Elizabeth (Heck) Schearer.
Richard was employed as a machine operator with Reading Tube Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1994.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged on February 14, 1952.
Surviving are his two children, Richard A. Schearer of Laureldale, and Terri L., wife of Gerald F. Long, of South Heidelberg Township; and his stepson, Larry Zerbe of
Flying Hills. Other survivors include his sister, Leah Ciarlone of Reading; three grandchildren: Damien,
Brandon and Adam Long; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Ava Long.
Richard was predeceased by his brothers: James,
Edward, Robert and Paul Schearer; and sisters, Erma Wood, Katherine "Kas" Schearer, Harriet Celmer and
Marie Hughes.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Stitzel Family
Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.

I did not know Richard but I want to give my condolences to the family. Richard was my Great Grandmother Harriet Shearer Lott's nephew. His father John was her brother.
