Donald Campbell Obituary

Donald "Donnie" Colin Campbell

Donald "Donnie" Campbell, 64, died unexpectedly but peacefully at home in Concord on Thursday, February 9, 2023.
He leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law, Colin and Kelly Campbell; his heart and best friend Mary Flower; mother, Mary Ann Currier; siblings, Sharon Cain and husband Mike, Jim Campbell and partner Cindi Carrigan, and Cindy Ackley and
husband Ted; many nieces and nephews; and a community of friends, bandmates, and fellow musicians. He was also a loving grandfather to Mary's grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Bruce Campbell.
Donnie was born on October 13, 1958, in Oakland, California. He attended Miramonte High School. Among other exciting ventures, he spent time as a professional videographer for horse racing, and worked in the heavy equipment industry for much of his early life. He also worked in automotive and spent many hours under the hoods of cars for both his career and to help his friends and family. He was an avid car guy and proud owner of Haze 'Em, a 1969 Chevy Camaro.
Besides being a devoted gear head, Donnie was an incredible musician. He sang, played guitar, and was a fierce harmonica player for his beloved band, The Culprits. If you were in the same room as Donnie and a guitar, you were almost always lucky enough to be serenaded.
While Donnie lived his entire life in the Bay Area, he also spent much of his time in Cobb Mountain, California, where he formed life-long friendships and touched many lives with his compassion and warmth. Donnie's light glowed brightly, and he was always quick to help others. He will be sorely missed by so many.
A memorial service will be held for family and friends in mid to late April, with the Bay Area venue to be announced in the coming weeks. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, people donate to the Cobb Mountain Lions Club (PO Box 701, Cobb, CA, 95426). In the meantime, friends may stop by Mary's porch to share music and memories of Donnie, where he loved to play every evening.

I just loved Donnie. We met in elementary school. As others have said he was always positive. Donnie never said a bad word about anyone. Just a breath of fresh air with a great smile. A true lifelong friend and an incredible loss.

I'm certain that the mold was broken after Donnie was born. I have never anyone as genuine, kind, and positively upbeat. He opened his heart to everyone. I still can't believe he's gone. Love to Colin, Mary, the rest of his family. It's going to be hard for all who knew and loved him.

I met Donnie when I first moved to Moraga in the mid seventies, one of the funniest and kindest people I have ever known. Rest in peace in Hot Rod Heaven. You will be missed my friend.

Donnie Campbell was a good friend . To all who knew him. You would be hard pressed to find anyone that didn´t have great things to say about Donnie. I have many happy memories growing up with Donnie. The party guy. The sweet honorable guy that always was a true gentleman. The car guy that helped us fix our rolling wrecks in high school! In all the 60 plus years I knew Donnie I never heard him gossip or say one negative thing about anyone. He had a heart of pure gold. We all had crushes on him every one of us girls! We all wanted a boyfriend like Donnie. Handsome and kind . Rest Easy Old Friend. Heaven is a better place with you in it.
With Love
