Duane Day Obituary

Born February 25, 1965 in Napa, California. Died unexpectedly of a heart attack on May 16, 2010. Survived by his treasured daughter Melissa Day of Ft. Bragg, California. He was so proud of her. Also survived by his father, mother, stepmother, grandmother; seven brothers and sisters; cousins; aunts; and uncles. He was a loving companion to his grandmother Grace Day. They talked, hugged, and laughed every day. Duane was a lovely person with a generous soul. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was an accomplished general contractor and a hard worker. He also had an amazing collection of arrowheads that he found on his daily walks. He was taken from us much too soon.
Services honoring his memory will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jones & Lewis Mortuary in Lower Lake. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to New Beginnings (a safe house for homeless teens), POB 6470, Clearlake, CA 95422.
Please share your memories by signing the guest book.

Little brother having a very sad moment so i thought I would send a little something your way

If roses grow in Heaven, Lord
Please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my brothers Duane's arms
And tell him they're from me.

Tell him I love him and miss him,
And when he turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon his cheek
And hold him for a while.

Because remembering him is easy,
I do it everyday,
But there is an ache within my heart
That will never go away.

Hey, my cousin, Duane,
i often think of you. You came to visit me at Aunt Betty's house. I was so proud of you. You were following your daughter in her training bicycle, smiling with joy. It isn't fair to loose you and my brother-in-law, John, my sister, Sharon's husband passed away on May 1st. My heart goes out to you and your family. May the Lord Jesus be you. We will meet in heaven/paradise someday. I alway love you in my heart. Kelly Venegas(Fresno, CA)

Two memories of Duane resonate in my heart. The first is when Duane was a baby. I was visiting (my cousin) Terrie, and I remember Duane lying down with little Duane, so he would fall asleep. The other sweet memory is during Aunt Bette's funeral reception when I had a long talk with Duane. He was so open, and genuine, and we talked on a level that was deep, and real. I think his sweet soul grew strong, strengthened by his struggles, and his loving heart.
Please know that you are in my prayers. I especially think of you during these tender times, while I,too, grieve the loss of my husband, John, who died May 1, 2010, after a long struggle with his health.
With love,
Sharon Carberry (Sharon Richardson)

I am so sorry for your loss. The funeral service was very, very nice. The picture of Duane that emerged from the comments was of a man who was very loving, warm, and he obviously added much to the lives of the people around him. I will miss him. I will never forget him.

After meeting and hearing from so many of Dwayne's family the last couple of days, we are not left to wonder that he loved you so, and how it was that he himself was such a loving man. Sal and I can't thank you enough, those of you with whom we were able to share some laughter and tears over Dwayne. Meeting you after having heard about you over the years was very precious to us in our own grief.

Knowing how you'll be there for Melissa, always, is comforting too. Even tho' she was too young when so much a part of our life that her memories of us are vague at best, we care so much still for her and that she have a happy life. It's comforting to know she has her mother's constant loving care and all the support from the vast extended Day Family to help her through.

May you all continue to find comfort in your wonderful memories and in knowing how this dear man loved you so.

Sincerely and with warmest regards,

Aloha Duane: Dear Terry and Duane: Many years ago before my first son was born you brought Duane Jr. into this world. As kids the three of us had some great times together. Becoming parents has many great moments and times when we just don't know why they happen. Parents are not ment to bury thier children. You both are going through the worst part of parenthood. My hart goes out to you both. Having lost a son, I can assure you that your memories of Duane Jr. will soon become the best memories. Soon you will only remember those moments when you experienced pleasure in his company. If either of you would like to talk to someone who has lived with this kind of loss, please call me. I can always make a special trip back to Lake County. Michael Richardson

It is with my deepest regret that Duane is no longer with us in body-he was one of the friendliest, giving people I knew. Everytime I had the pleasure of speaking with him he was always willing to give a smile and a hug-He will be greatly missed and will always be in my heart. All his family will be in my prayers at this difficult time.
