Dear cousins,
While I haven't seen you since the summer of 1970, I was able to keep in touch with your dad over the years. Sharing the same name, Charlie, we most often referred to each other as "C2" and "C3" (C1 being Grandpa Crowley and C4 being my son...yet another Charles Edward). Your dad always made an effort to keep in touch with his brother's side of the family as one would expect from such a "people person." My first camera was a joyous Christmas gift from Uncle Charles and Aunt Jane in Connecticut. My phone call as a recent college graduate with a low draft number on a cross-country tour with two friends was answered with the offer of beds and meals when we got as far as the East Coast. (That was the 1970 visit) And when I needed to locate a lawyer in New York to help administer the estate of my intestate father, Uncle Charlie was (of course) ready willing, and more than able to provide support. I have taken great pleasure getting to know him a bit more through the words of others much closer to him than I. Those words also remind me of how much your cousins (Charlie, Steve, and Ann) missed by not being as close to him (and you) as we should have been. Your dad was always my positive connection to the family and he is greatly missed...by me and so many others.

Dear Tracy and Tara:
Arleen and I apologize as we thought our entry was made when your father passed away. We became close friends of Pat & your father and believe we were among the first to know of Pat's illness. They were both mentors in life as well as P.I.A. Your father placed a great deal of confidence in me while President and I worked very hard to never disappoint him. A great man, friend to all, and as strong willed as anyone to brighten our lives these many years. He now is with his beloved Pat and may God and the angels enjoy their company as much as we did. Farewll my friend til later.

Dear Tracy and Tara,
I just learned of your Dad's passing and want you to know that he was very kind to me (and Jay) for many years. We spent lovely weekends as a family in VT and remember many laughs with Charlie. He was always quick to lend a book and to discuss interesting things in great depth. We remember him fondly.

I was fortunate as a young insurance professional to have benefited from Charlie's wisdom, guidance and abundant knowledge of our complex industry. His pleasant demeanor and great work ethic stand as examples to everyone in our business.

To The Crowley Family: Charlie was one of the best mentors a person could have. He show me the way in the PIA National for all the years I was involved. I could always call him to get his ideas and thought on things that we were dealing with inside the association. He made those memories that I have with PIA a laugh, a cry , and a joy. He will be missed.

Tracy & Tara: Words cannot express our sadness to learn of the loss of your father and my greatest mentor. His knowledge, wit and toughness were admired by many. His quest for privacy was known, but he let us in somewhat, especially after losing his beloved, Pat. Savor the many memories for they are something no one can take from you. We will miss this great man and all he did for us during our years with National PIA. May God be with both you and the entire family in your loss.

To the Crowley Family
Charlie was a mentor to me in many, many ways. I will always be grateful to him for the advice and counsel he gave to me both as a member of NHAIW and of PIACT. From the Hartford Association of Insurance Women, as published in our May Issue by Michele Redman, Burlington, CT
The editor would also like to ask our many members, and especially the more “seasoned, to remember Charles E. Crowley, Jr, who passed away on April 24. Charlie is well remembered by many of us as the first man to join HAIW – because he felt we offered a great value to the Insurance community and he wanted to be a part of it. As the President of Hemingway-Lewis (Cheshire & Southington), President of CT and National PIA, Charlie was a wonderful friend to HAIW. HAIW Past President's Regina Cianci Bogdan and Pat Peet graduated from Charlie's school of leadership and success in the agency business.
For many years, the HAIW Insurance Professional of the Year Silver Bowl Award was provided by Charlie and the Hemingway-Lewis Agency. Among my many memories of HAIW, receiving that silver bowl from Charlie, who called me “that nut from California, is one of my fondest.
I am sure that Charlie and Pat would not want us to waste any tears, but would wish us to laugh often and enjoy every minute of life.

To the family of Charlie Crowley:
My wife and I had the great privilege of meeting and getting to know Charlie over several years of visiting the Weston, VT area. We shared several meals with Charlie, as well as afternoon visits from time to time. He was truly a joy to get to know, and we feel our lives were enriched by sharing a small piece of his. He will be missed.

To The Crowley Family,
It is with great sadness my family and I learned of Charlie's passing. He befriended me many years ago after I suffered a devastating injury and became one of my 'Guardian Angels.' At a time when I had lost a sense of direction and purpose in life, he stressed the importance of a positive attitude and encouraged me to seek out a new path. Charlie's optimism, intelligence, and razor-sharp wit made him an excellent mentor as well as a great friend. Those traits also endeared him to every member of my family. It was always a pleasure to share his company. He will be truly missed.

To the Crowley family--May grief pass gently for all of you. Charlie was a magnificent person in every respect. I feel priviledged that I received business guidance from him first many years ago, then when my endeavors changed and I began anew. He was sincerely interested, honest and forthright in all business matters. He wasn't fooled by surface gestures; I appreciated that and respected his input. He is clearly among angels and will be with each of you forever, I am sure.
