It is difficult for me to comprehend that Nick has been gone for six years. Whenever I see a commercial for a WWF wrestling match or watch any of the many muscle car shows, I think of Nick. I consider myself lucky to have known Nick and to have had the benefit of his influence. I look forward to our eventual reunion.

My heart is broken to hear this news!! Nick was my cousin, we grew up together and we were very close when we were younger. He was like a brother to me and though we lost touch with one another he was always in my heart and will always be in my heart. I Love You Nick RIP... Karen

I am deeply saddened by this unexpected news of Nic's passing.
I was an international student from Australia living in Seth North Hall at CCSU in 1985. Nic was my dorm room neighbour and good friend whilst I was at Central for that year and we played in somewhat of a band together (at least one performance) after we worked out we both liked Lynyrd Skynyrd. We'd since kept in touch on and off over these many years whilst we both raised families and forged careers, but in hindsight I definitely had not kept in touch enough despite the geographic distances. When we did get in touch it was as if no time had passed since those college days. I'm not sure how many of Nic's friends and family knew about Nic's wrestling alter ego The Nickster. The Nickster would appear on some audio message recordings that I would receive from time to time in the years since 1985, and I'm sure that if career paths had ended up differently, The Nickster could easily have been a household name (more comic relief notoriety than athletic prowess probably, no offence Nickster!).
Nic had said to me more than once in the last few years how lucky he was having the family he had with Marcia, how proud he was of his daughters Lindsay and Lauren, and also how proud he was of his mother Judith's strength and achievements. Nic's passing is a big shock to me as we had been speaking in the last months of who will be visiting who first, either my family coming to CT, or the Yoias coming to stay with us in Australia for a long overdue visit.
After all these years of knowing Nic and despite the long periods of not seeing each other, his passing will leave a big gap in my life. Save a table up there for me Nic and we'll talk about the old times like we should have done more of while you were here.

To Domonic's family,
Any time that we lose loved one this is certainly a difficult time. May the precious memories you shared together, help you cope and bring you peace. May the scripture found at 1 Thes. 4:14 bring you some comfort knowing that there is a future for the ones we have lost in death can be reassuring. May the God of peace be with you and your family during this time.

Nick was truly one of a kind. A gentle, welcoming figure who could talk to anyone. It's tough to people nowadays with personalities as warm as Nick's, and the Quinnipiac community has suffered a massive loss. As a work-study student in QU's financial aid office, there was never a dull moment with Nick, and never a time I couldn't ask him for advice. We talked about a lot, particularly sports. Moreso, he taught me a lot about life, invaluable lessons that I'll carry with me forever. The world has lost a great man, one who showed people around him the power of kindness and sincerity.

Dear Marcia, Lauren and Lindsey, I am just shocked by the passing of Nick. My tears, and my prayers, are for you right now.
I've never had a chance to meet you, and I know there is nothing I can say to ease your pain or comprehend your deep anguish. So can only share with you what he meant to me, and why Nick is a significant person to me and why I will miss him, so much. About 2003 Don Weinbach at Quinnipiac told me to visit this other young guy Nick in financial aid and figure out a formula for combining a grant and financial aid to pay QU students to engage in a summer of service in Hamden municipal government departments. 16 years and almost 100 fellows later, those former public service fellows are making an impact in government, law teaching, science, banking, business, healthcare and nonprofits. But that's not my point, exactly. My point is that none of these people have any idea that Nick was working to serve them-- quietly, efficiently and humbly. But I did know, and I am grateful.
When Nick became the Associate VP in financial aid, he could have passed the nurturing of fellowship program to someone else --but he didn't. I bet there are thousands more Quinnipiac graduates out there who Nick helped daily in small, imperceptible ways, putting them into position so they could study hard and make their dreams come true. I wish everyone could know that.
He was one of those special people you meet in your career who was not just EXCELLENT at what he did, but who also is a wonderful, warm and caring person. You are blessed to have been loved by him. I'm going to miss him, so much.
In sympathy,
Scott McLean

Nick and I met in college where we were roommates and fellow Resident Assistants (RA). At the time, we were both broke as could be, and fighting our way through school in eager anticipation of our bright futures. Even though we were broke, we managed to make our own fun. In our Sophomore year, Nick spent every dollar he had on building a bar in our 12' x 12' dorm room. It took up half the room, but we were the only guys on campus with a bar. As we planned for our first big party, Nick decided to wax the top of the bar until it shined like a mirror. While doing so, Nick unknowingly managed to throw a line of wax across the right-arm of every article of clothing we had hanging up in our shared closet. For weeks we walked around with our commemorative wax arm bands. To this day, when I see an arm band I think of Nick, a loyal husband, a consummate father, and an incredible friend. Rest in peace my friend. you will be greatly missed.

I was so saddened to hear of Nick's sudden passing. I enjoyed our conversations at the Quinnipiac Christmas party and John and I often saw him at Oakdale music events. He was a great man and very good friend and colleague of my husband (John), both from the University of Bridgeport and Quinnipiac. Such a terrible loss.

I remember Nick as a fun loving friend back in our college days at CCSU.
I will never forget the day I moved onto Patricks Court and Nick greeted me as his new neighbor. Together Nick, Marcia and I shared special times together at Yoia holiday celebrations, graduations, comedy clubs and amazing fun conversations!
Together Nick, Marcia,Lauren and Lindsay were quite the team! They loved life and most importantly family.
May Gods graces comfort you as you mourn the passing of your son, brother, father, husband and one remarkable man!
As always,

I was very saddened to hear this news about Nick. I became associated with him over 35 years ago through the student financial aid profession. He was a great friend and colleague, and admired by many. We would not only share professional experiences, but also our family life. He was a proud and great dad, and our conversations would naturally revolve around our children as they were growing up. He was always willing to help and always reached out in the time of need whether it was a financial aid regulation or how to get excel to do what it is suppose to do! He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
Love, light and prayers to his family.

I just cant find the words to express the sadness I feel on my friends passing. He was a wonderful man that I will miss for the rest of my life. Lindsay and Lauren, because of you he was the happiest man on earth. I cant count the times he would tell me of how proud he was of his girls and all the reasons he felt such pride. Marcia you were so dear to him. His love for you was boundless. Judy you will be in my thoughts and prayers as well. You are responsible for Nick becoming the man he was. My prayers will be with you all and please find the strength to get through this terrible time.
