Evelyn Fernandes, 86, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at her home with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late Elizio Fernandes. She was born in Meriden, May 7, 1937, a daughter of the late Joaquin and Mary (Silva) Fernandes. After a long career, Evelyn retired as the Assistant Town Clerk of Wallingford. Previously, she worked at Feldman's Dress Co. and Home Bank in Wallingford. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford. Evelyn will be missed by her children, Renee Fuhr and her husband Christopher of Wallingford, Ronald Fernandes and his partner Alexa of Florida, and Derek Fernandes, Sr. and his wife Beth of Milford; her grandchildren, Derek Fernandes, Jr. (Courtney), Amy Fernandes, Alicia Fernandes, Michael Fernandes (Alexandra), Kimberlee Snyder, Taylor Fuhr (Tom), and Sydney Fuhr (Jake); her great-grandchildren, Kevin, Greyson, Everett, Riley, and Evin; her brothers, John Fernandes (Rose), and Antonio Fernandes; her sister-in-law, Irene Kimball; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Alice Kalandyk and Albert Fernandes; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Americo and Betty Fernandes, and Val and Tina Vicencio. Evelyn's family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Friday, January 5th, from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9am from the funeral home when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, 84, N. Colony St., Wallingford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.
