Herbert Herteux Obituary

Herbert Herteux, 84, husband of Therese Herteux died peacefully on Tuesday, August 10th at home. Born in Rechtenbach, Germany, on November 15, 1936, he was the son of the late Alois Herteux and Anna Vater Herteux of Germany. He had resided in Meriden and moved to Middlefield for the last 40 years of his life.

Herbert was an owner of Noack's Meat Products of 1112 East Main St. in Meriden, for over 40 years up until his retirement ten years ago. He served with the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church of Meriden for many years.

Herbie was very involved in the Meriden Turner Society as Treasurer, Dues Collector and Main Cook. As a member for over 50 years, he developed many close friendships. He was also a member of the North Italian Club and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Club.

His grandchildren were very important to him and he loved to play cards and games, with one of his favorites being Mensch Arguer Dich Nicht. He was quite competitive, even with his grandchildren, and those he did play with would quickly find out what a cunningly good player he was. He also loved to play soccer in his early years and watch soccer daily in his retirement years.

Herbie had a glint in his eye around friends and family members. You could find him smiling with a twinkle in his eyes making people wonder what he was up to! He was most comfortable in a pair of jeans and an old flannel shirt. He found great pleasure in working outdoors and living off the land, a true renaissance man.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter Tania Eaton and son-in-law Scott of Southington, his son Richard Herteux and his husband Peter Rist of Middlefield, his grandchildren, Spencer, Katerina and Jessica Eaton, his sisters, Anita Kretz and Elizabeth Hohlein and brother-in-law, Fritz of Germany. He is also survived by 6 nieces and 3 nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Armin Herteux and brother-in-law Max.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT, on Wednesday, August 18th from 10am to 12pm with a memorial service at 12 noon. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492. For online condolences, please visit jferryfh.com
