James Quilty Obituary

MERIDEN - James R. Quilty, Jr., 77, husband of Caroline (Stoba) Quilty, died on Sunday, June 12, 2011, surrounded by his family at MidState Medical Center, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Meriden on July 21, 1933, he was the son of the late James R. Quilty Sr., and Cecelia (McNulty) Quilty. Mr. Quilty attended Meriden schools and was a graduate of Meriden High School, and the F.B.I. National Academy. Mr. Quilty was a Connecticut State Trooper for 23 years, retiring in 1983 and later worked for the Hartford Insurance Group, retiring in 1996. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church, loved to travel, was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed spending time with his family, and loved dogs.

Besides his wife Caroline, he is survived by one daughter, Caroline (Quilty) Fiderio and Michael Beaudry, of Meriden; two sons, Joseph M. (Cami) Quilty and James C. (Joelle) Quilty, all of Meriden; eight grandchildren, Justin, Jordan, Joey, and Jayna Quilty, James and Michael Fiderio, Jacey and Jenna Quilty. He is also survived by a sister, Barbara (E. Eric) Helin, of Oskosh, Wis., and several nieces, nephews; and a special family dogs, Rafa and Tuco. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Joseph Stoba, Jr.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 18, at 10:15 a.m., from the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, June 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden, CT 06450, or to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., Rocky Hill, CT 06067. www.jferryfh.com

Dear Caroline,
Mary Ellen and I are so sorry to have just learned of Jim's passing.
Growing up in Meriden seeing Troopers Quilty and Stoba regularly gave me the inspiration to strived for a CSP career.
Both were outstanding role models for me and I was proud to have worn the blue and gold as they did.
James Quilty was in a class of his own. He will be missed by all of us.
