Jean McCann Obituary

Jean MacIntosh McCann, 95, beloved wife of 63 years to the late James H. McCann, Jr., passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, on March 22, 1927, only child of Donald M. MacIntosh & Mildred Noble MacIntosh Markee. She grew up in Calais, Maine, graduating from Calais Academy where she was active in sports, captain of the basketball team and drum majorette of the band. She was a graduate of Bryant & Stratton, Boston, MA, where she met husband Jim at a YWCA dance. They moved to Meriden, CT, in 1957.

She worked at the Meriden Senior Center, Tuxis Coal & Oil, and Meriden Trust & Safe Deposit Bank. She was very active in the First United Methodist Church for 65 years. She served as Sunday School teacher, treasurer of the Women's Society for 24 years, and co-treasurer of the church with her husband. She participated in the church book club, as member of unit 4 and also at the soup kitchen. She was a member of the League of Women Voters of Meriden acting as Voter Services Chairman & treasurer.

She enjoyed playing tennis, golf, swimming, knitting, reading, bridge, and in later years aerobics at the Senior Center. She always looked forward to winter vacations in Florida at North Redington Beach. Her favorite time of year was spending summers with her family at their cottage in Onset Beach, MA.

She leaves her children, Atty. Stephen D. McCann (Lorrie) of Naples, FL; Carol J. McCann of Meriden; Nancy M. Records (Hal) of Wickford, R.I.; and James H. McCann, III, (Lisa) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her grandchildren, Harold A. Records, Jr., of Rockland, MA; David L. Records (Allison) of Safety Harbor, FL; Jeannie Records Boyle (John) of North Kingstown, R.I.; Carol Anne Records Koutmos (Alex) of East Hampton, CT; and Madeleine J. McCann of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and her great-grandchildren, Sebastian & Coral Records, and Panagiota, Dimitra, & Gregory Koutmos. She was predeceased by her grandson, James H. McCann, IV.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 11am at the First United Methodist Church, 159 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. Burial will be in Agawam Cemetery in Wareham, MA, at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
