Jean Peterson Obituary
Jean was born in Gardner, Mass. on Aug. 25, 1923, daughter of the late Edward and Eva (Provencher) Campbell. Prior to her retirement in 1985, she worked at the Southington Town Hall. Jean was an active supporter of the Southington Community. She volunteered for the Connecticut Yankee Girl Scout Council as a troop organizer and troop leader. She was a member of the PTA, Southington Women's Club, and Southington Arts and Crafts Association. She also volunteered for the Literacy Volunteers of America for 10 years teaching ESL (English as a second language) to Asian families who have remained life – long friends. She enjoyed playing bridge, entertaining and being with family.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Christina Cooper and her husband, David, of California; a son, R. Campbell Peterson and his wife, Bonnie, of Southington; three grandchildren, Krista Rathbun, of Southington, Julie Wolpert, of New York, and John Peterson of W. Hartford; and five great-grandchildren Ethan, Lillian, Marion, and Kailyn Rathbun and Joshua Wolpert; along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Miles and Edith Aher.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 10:45 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. Southington to St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Road, for a Mass at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jean's memory to Southington Community Services, 91 Norton St., Southington, CT. 06489, to help support needy families in the area.
