John A. Maccio Sr.

1934 - 2022

John A. Maccio, Sr., 88, of Southington, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 5, 2022. He was the beloved husband of the late Antoinette (Picone) Maccio.

Born January 31, 1934, in Southington, he was the son of the late Domenic and Rosa (Deangelo) Maccio and the late Maria (D'Onofrio) Maccio.

John was a veteran of the Korean War proudly serving with the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant in Greenland from 1953 to 1961. He worked at the VA Hospital in Newington for 4 years and retired after 32 years of service with the U.S. Post Office and was a member of the American Legion Post 72. He loved to travel with his wife, spending time with his family and crossword puzzles.

He leaves his children, Roseann Maccio of Southington and John Maccio, Jr., of Plainville; two grandchildren, Stephanie Verderame and her husband Daniel Sr. of Southington and Andy Maccio of Plainville; three great-grandchildren, Eliana, Daniel Jr. and Everett Verderame. He was predeceased by his son Domenic and grandson Paul Fortin, Jr., four brothers and two sisters.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, February 12th at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be prior to the Mass from 9-10:30 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington.
