Madeline Carr Obituary

Our beautiful mother, Madeline M. (Savo) Carr, of Southington, CT, passed away on Wednesday, July 6th peacefully, after a courageous fight with cancer. She was 78.

Madeline was born in New Haven on September 21, 1943 and was the daughter of the late Michael A. and Rose (Suffredini) Savo. After moving to Wallingford, she met the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Ernest R. Carr, whom she married. They raised their three children in Meriden, CT.

For over twenty-five years, Madeline enjoyed a successful career as the business manager of the former Meriden-Wallingford Anesthesiologist Group which was located on Broad Street in Meriden. She enjoyed her work and her colleagues and spent her professional years as a dedicated and invaluable friend and colleague to those with whom she worked.

Madeline (Maddy) loved her family and friends and was known for her adventurous fun-loving spirit, incredible sense of humor and profound generosity. Maddy always loved the beach and the sun on her face. She would recount the days in her youth where she and her girlfriends would spend their summer days at Meigs Point at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison where they'd have dinner at the Hob Nob Restaurant, and she'd regale us with stories of how much fun they had. Maddy's friendships were deep and true. For over sixty years, she treasured and cherished her childhood lifelong friendships.

One of Maddy's most notable passions was decorating and designing her home and gardens, her chic sense of style was apparent in all aspects of her life; fashion and sophistication were her hallmarks. Maddy loved working in her yard and took great pleasure in the beauty of her flowers and gardens. Maddy was an avid movie buff and a lover of all kinds of trivia, whatever the topic, she had the answers.

Maddy loved York Beach, Maine. Once her kids were grown, she and Dad would take regular trips and enjoy staying on the water, eating at their favorite spots, and enjoying their morning coffee and newspaper on the benches along the water's edge. Years later, they enjoyed York Beach with their children and first-born grandchildren, and it became their special place. The love Maddy had for her grandchildren, lovingly known as Mimi, was endless and eternal.

There were regular Saturday night card playing dates with her friends which ended up being an opportunity to beautifully host with her renowned style. Maddy had an insatiable sweet tooth - inherited from her dad and passed on from there to her children and grandchildren as evidenced by the never-ending supply of Hersey's kisses placed in a perfect porcelain dish and set on the coffee table in the living room for all to enjoy.

Maddy loved to dance. When the opportunity presented, Maddy and Ernie would show the room how it was done. The smile on her face as she whirled and twirled with dad was something to be seen and admired by all. It was magic on the dance floor for those two.

A voracious reader, Maddy could often be found devouring her latest book; favorite genres being historical events, biographies, and mysteries. Our childhood home was filled with her books, a well-stocked library from floor to ceiling, and she would immerse herself in reading which remained a constant joy to her for all her years.

Madeline is survived by her three children and was Mimi to her six grandchildren: Ernest Carr, Jr. and his wife Kim of Plantsville, along with their children Billy, Allison, Jessica, and Thomas Carr; Susan Carr of Southington, and her children Zachary and Matthew Maxwell; and Melanie Carr of Essex. She is also survived by her brother, Michael & his wife Shirley Savo of Southbury , as well as, many nieces & nephews whom she loved very much. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 11:00 AM in the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington, CT 06489. Calling hours will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, prior to the service. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden. So sorry to hear this news. My best to Ernie, Susan and Melanie. Although I only met her a couple of times, her jocularity definitely shined through. I remember being at a Platt baseball pizza party in 83 when Ernie put her in a half nelson! One of the funniest things I've ever witnessed. She took pics of me polishing off an entire large pizza pie. Ernie and Susan, drop me a line one of these days. I would love to catch up. Sorry for your loss. Much love, Cookie. [email protected]
