Mildred Hiller Obituary

VERBANK, N.Y. - Mildred M. Hiller, 97, of Verbank, formerly of Sharon Springs, N.Y., died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the Sharon Health Care Center in Sharon.

She was born Jan. 23, 1914 in Sharon Springs, N.Y., and was the daughter of Floyd N. and Lela (Kahn) Mereness. Mildred was raised and spent most of her life in Sharon Springs. In 2007, she moved to Verbank, N.Y. to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Her class was the first to graduate from the new Sharon Springs Central School in 1931. She continued her education, graduating from Albany Business College and began her career working as a secretary for Vivian Peckham, SSCS principal of the school.
She served on the Consistory of the Sharon Reformed Church, of which she was a member, her entire life. She also served at various times as organist and a Sunday school teacher, and was a member of the Women's Guild. She retired in 1984 from Harold H. Dingman Co. in Sharon Springs where she was secretary/bookkeeper for more than 20 years.

She was the wife of the late John W. Hiller and was also predeceased by her sister, Bessie A. Mereness. Mildred is survived by her two daughters, Janet Hiller and her husband, Stephen Volpini, of Meriden, and Ca-rolyn Marshall and her husband, Timothy, of Verbank, N.Y.; her grandson, Robert S. Marshall and his partner, Nicole Anderson, of Verbank, N.Y.; and granddaughter, Kathryn G. Marshall, of Windsor, Vt.; two great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 26, at the Sharon Reformed Church, 6858 State Route 10, Sharon Springs, N.Y. with the Rev. Pacia Ferrell Vamvas officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Slate Hill Cemetery, Sharon Springs, N.Y. Viewing will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Sharon Reformed Church, P.O. Box 92, Sharon Springs, NY 13459.
