Palma H. Zakszewski

Palma H. Zakszewski, 95, lifelong Meriden resident and wife of the late Raymond Zakszewski, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Midstate Medical Center due to complications from pneumonia. She was born in Meriden on March 23, 1926, a daughter of the late George and Maria Theresa Argiro Scarano. She was a devoted and loving mother of her two children; James Zakszewski of Glastonbury and Raelene Ciarlelli whom she was predeceased by. She remained active throughout her life as a terrific cook (Mangia!), dancing, water aerobics, walking, and enjoying the outdoors. She was extremely giving to others, especially to her daughter-in-law Sally. Her opportunity as a Kelly Temp associate exposed her to all types of occupations and people. She was a self-taught artistic painter, having some of her work displayed at the Bradley Home for visitors to enjoy. Upon retirement Raymond and Palma traveled the world having fun, taking 26 cruises to places such as Alaska, Hawaii, Great Britain and other European destinations. Known for her sharp mind, "Aunt Chick" could relay stories and dates from years past. She reached out to family members to keep in touch and get the latest information, even more so while residing at the Bradley Home. She devoured books on tape and her enthusiasm shined as she explained their contents. The friendly staff there remained amazed how an elderly, blind woman could accomplish so much. Being a resident for almost 10 years, Palma considered them as her extended family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 4th at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden. Friends are invited to meet directly at the church. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Bradley Home & Pavilion, 320 Colony St., Meriden, CT 06451.
