Peter Adamo Obituary

WALLINGFORD - Peter D. (DiAdamo) Adamo, 96, of Wallingford, formerly of New Haven, beloved husband of 47 years, of the late Rosa-Lee Curtis Adamo, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at the MidState Medical Center, in Meriden.

Born in Valhalla, N.Y., Oct. 11, 1912, a son of the late Victororino and Rosaria Mescaula DiAdamo, he had been a Wallingford resident for many years. Peter was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army and had been the co-proprietor of Nick's Service Station, in Newington for 13 years. In 1952, he opened Adamo's Garage, which has become an icon on Center Street. Peter worked long hard hours for many years establishing his family business and always enjoyed his work, as well as the many customers and friends he came to know over the years. He was a gentle man of great values, dedicated to his family and had an excellent sense for business and hard work. These values he instilled into his sons, and in later years, his grandchildren. He also loved his gardens and spent many hours caring for his flowers and vegetables, in which he took great pride. In 1982, he purchased his Cadillac, a dream of his to own. He enjoyed driving it around and traveling to Florida many times with his beloved wife, Rosa.

He is survived by his two sons, Curtis Victor Adamo and his wife, Dolores and Peter P. Adamo, Sr. and his wife, Linda, all of Wallingford; his beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Durant of Wallingford, Peter P. Adamo, Jr. of Henniker, N.H., and Elizabeth Adamo of Boston, Mass.; his adored great-grandsons, Aydan and Peyton Durant of Wallingford and Peter P. Adamo, III of Henniker, N.H.; his sisters, Adeline DiAdamo Riccio of East Haven; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his four sisters, Angela McDermott, Sue Appicella, Rose DiAdamo and Edith D'Addio; and his two brothers, Nicholas DiAdamo and Harry DiAdamo, Sr.

Peter's family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Skyview Center for the kindness and care shown to him over the last eight years.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Wallingford, Saturday from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be at In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford.
