Ramez Abouchacra Obituary

With extreme sadness, we announce the passing of Ramez "Ramzi" Abouchacra, age 66, of whom is survived by his wife Siham Bou Hatoum; his two sons Robii and Ryan; his three daughters Amel, Maya, Diana; his nephew Hisham; and his three grandchildren.

Ramzi was known as a hard worker who gave up his schooling at a young age to help provide for his six siblings. He began his career as a police officer in Beirut, Lebanon. He then immigrated to the U.S. in 1979. He set up a grocery store called 'Ramzi's Superette' on E. Main St., a staple in the community for over twenty-five years; later, "Sam's Market" on Lewis Ave.

Many people in the community can tell you stories of how the neighborhood "bodega" Ramzi's helped supply many local people with basic groceries and sundries, whether it was the .25 cent juices for the local kids, deli grinders, mothers in need of milk or over the counter medicine. Ramzi had a good honest business and supported his family wholeheartedly in America and Lebanon.

Known always to lend a helping hand, he always made everyone comfortable. Ramzi had a warm sense of humor and always made you feel welcomed by his bright smile and generosity. He was a hard-working community man and full of so much life.

Ramzi was a loving husband, brother, son, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. He will be forever missed and kept close in our hearts. May he find comfort in the hands of angels and God's everlasting warmth and Love, and may he Rest in Peace.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, March 24th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT 06450. My sympathies go out to Ramzi´s children who´s loss I can´t imagine. I will always have fond memories of both Amal and Ramzi who both opened their hearts and home to me and my family. I could not stop by without going home with a bag full of fresh vegetables from their garden and of course I would have to sample whatever they were cooking or drinking. I have never met a more loving couple and devoted parents. I hope his children stay close and can comfort each other.
