Raymond Willette Obituary

Raymond F. Willette, 85, loving husband to Gloria (Cooper) Willette, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven. Born in Island Falls, ME, on June 19, 1937, the eldest of 8 children born to the late Victor and Ruth Willette.

Raymond met the love of his life, Gloria, and together in 1960 they came down from Maine to settle in Meriden, CT. Raymond was general foreman at Pratt and Whitney until his retirement in 1995. He and his wife traveled extensively, their biggest trips to Hawaii and a surprise trip to Alaska. They also visited Branson, MO and many family trips to Birch Point in Maine. Raymond also loved to fish, and you could often find him out on his boat in the summer months, always with Gloria, one of his children or grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Gloria of 61 years, he is survived by his children, Michelle of Dover Foxcroft, ME, David (Sue) of Southington, Andrew (Sue) of Meriden and Scott (Maureen) of Wallingford. He also leaves grandchildren, Zachary (Jess), Jonathan (Margaritta), Christopher (Rachael), Caitlin (Sam), Mia (Cayden), Nicholas (Danielle), Gabrielle (Kimberly), Justin and Luke (Paige); great-grandchildren, Nathan, Annabel, Dominic, Raelynn, Briella and Logan; his sister Linda (Rick); and his brothers Ronald, Rodney (Betty), Harold all of Maine and Richard (Cindy) of Alabama. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Anthony, his brother James, and his sister Joyce.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and medical personnel of St. Raphaels Hospital in New Haven.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, January 9th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. A celebration of life will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home. Interment will be private.

My grandfather was an amazing person that went above and beyond to make others smile. I remember many summers going fishing out on his boat, listening to funny stories of his times in Maine. He taught me how to tie flies, to garden, and to drive a boat among many other things. I´ll never forget what a kind gentle soul he had.
