Shawn Simons Obituary
Shawn was born in Meriden on June 3, 1976, and grew up in Plantsville. He graduated from Southington High School and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Shawn loved life and lived it to the fullest. He recently moved to Aspen, Colo., to enjoy the beautiful mountains surrounding his new home. In Shawn's own words…. "Best advice for anyone is never be closed minded …. There's too much great stuff out there".
Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Colleen Simons of Farmington; his maternal grandmother, Dolores Flynn Rabis; along with his loving aunts, uncles many cousins and friends.
Shawn could light up a room by walking into it. He was a sweet, fun-loving lovable guy. We will miss you with all our hearts, our Shawny Boy.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St., to Mary Our Queen Church, 248 Savage St., Southington for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday (TODAY) from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Asthma Association, 1233 20th St. N.W., Suite 402, Washington, D.C. 20036. I think about you often. I sometimes think i see you when I am out and about. I get so excited. Then I remember that it can't be you and I grieve all over again. I stood by your grave yesterday and sang Happy Birthday to you...corny...I know...but hey...that's why you loved me so much!
Just thinking about you...everyday...not a day goes by that I don't. I hope you are up there laughing and smiling...and watching over all of those who cared about you sooo mu...cccchhh. :)

Words can't begin to express the sorrow I have in my heart. Shawn is a great friend to me and always will be in my thoughts. He was always kind, generous and a great guy. We had many fun nights talking about life and whats to come. Man did we have some fun times. You are a dynamic person and will be greatly missed by all. As you called me a day before you died, you expressed how happy you were to come home to visit on Dec 20 and you loved everyone and could'nt wait to go out. I wish I was there to get that call. Wow... Shawn will definitely be missed by many. He was the "kid" who always had a smile on his face and would stop to chat and say hi in the halls and on the slopes back in the days. So full of life. Shawn, you are one of my true best friends of all time and will always be that way forever. It's like losing my brother and a piece of family. Mr. and Mrs. Simons And Colleen, my deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. I met Shawn back in High School and I remember
all the trips to the beach and the countless hours of playing 007. I was there when he bought that Isuzu Rodeo and he had that system installed. It came with a remote and I guess only one CD cause all he would play on it was DMX (lol). I saw him this past summer and of course it ended up in a deep conversation about life into the early morning hours. These memories and all the ones in between were great, just like his unparalleled personality. My heart goes to you and your in my thoughts and prayers. Shawn will always be remembered and sadly missed. He was a good man.

I dont know any other person in the world who has seen BMX Bandits, but Shawn did, and we would qoute that movie till tears of laugther came out our eyes, its ironic that now I remember him with tears of sadness. My prayers go out to all that are grieving, especially his family, whom I love dearly. Shawn had a huge heart and love for life that he shared with everyone he met. He was quick to open his mind and his heart to all around him.

Shawn, I met you through a wonderful friend and we spent 6 great years laughing. I think that is the best way to put it... Like I told Jess...I never once saw you not smiling. Well Shawn I don't like this at all!!! This is Pop's Mongillo calling. I loved you like my own son so I am deeply hurt and sad and I cry. You were always there for me and my family (Matt, Jason, Patti# as well as other famliy members and we will deeply miss you!!! You made me laugh most of the time and sometimes got me mad as well with some good old pranks you pulled on old Pappa Mong. with Matt and somtimes Jay. You will be getting a visit from me sometime in the future and we will talk and cry and laugh about all the great times we shared as a "family" of which you are a important piece of that family that will be missed.
