To All,
I’m sure it goes without saying that today we remember, more than the other 365 days, or in the case of this past year, 366, the tremendous loss we collectively all feel. The hole in our hearts, as I said ten years ago, will forever be present. Today I just want to remind the entire Cadden family that I know that our family’s, as I sure everyone else’s, thoughts and prayers are with you on this day.

To Tom's Family:
Please accept my deepest sympathy on your loss. He was one terrific guy - and a great lawyer. I came to know him in 1978 and he had a future in elective office - had he sought it.
Laughter was wherever Tommy was and his sense of humor was classic. He left all of us far too soon and we shall all miss him. May his love for his family comfort you in the days and weeks ahead.
Sincerely,

Carol Thompson

I was one of those candidates who benefited from Tom's support.

Regrettably, he never got to be heavily involved in my four winning campaigns for Congress(Meriden was not in my district), but, in many ways, it almost didn't matter.
Because Tom was very much about practicing politics as a way bf fighting for his beliefs;
he knew there weren't any sure things.
I will never forget his friendship, his loyalty, his enthusiasm and his wonderful sense of humor.
At a time when so many in our culture loathe politics and politicians, Tom's passing reminds us of those handful of wonderful people in towns like Meriden who aren't at all afraid to push back against that negativism and cynicism.

Despite the enormous grief and sadness so palpable at the St Joseph service yesterday, Tom's spirit of community service and sacrifice was very much there for all of us to feeler and to vow to emulate. My wife, Myra, and my six children all want the Cadden family to know they are in our thoughts and prayers.

Tommy and I were the "advance team" for Ella Grasso's campaign for reelection to the office of Governor in 1978. As such, we had a big van full of signs and bumper stickers, posters and literature. It was our job to precede the Governor on her schedule and make sure that everything was set up to make her campaign appearances successful. We set up signs, had the band ready to play a Tarantella as she entered and figured out where she was supposed to go, told her who was there and helped to get on her way to the next stop.

We had a great time at this job. Both being single, Irish American boys, we enjoyed the campaign, not only because of the opportunities which it provided to advance our careers, but mostly for the chances it provided us to party. Every event had a bar. Some had shrimp bowls. And we pretended that we were big shots with the campaign. So, we milked every opportunity which presented itself, to have a good time.

One night, we got Ella into one event and then turned to the bar and buffet table to enjoy ourselves. Well, we enjoyed ourselves so much that we didn't realize that the Governor had left and was on her way to the next stop, where we were supposed to meet her.

Tommy said "We gotta go and beat her to the next place". So, we ran to the van and Tommy drove like a bat out of hell. We had to use an alternative route because, if she saw us passing her car in the big "Grasso Van", we would be in deep trouble. I don't know how he did it, without killing both of us, but we pulled into the parking lot just as we saw the Governor's cruiser pulling into the front of the hall. Tommy flew to the back door and screeched the van to a stop. We both ran through the back door, into and out of the kitchen, through the hall and got out front just as she was getting out of her cruiser. She never knew that her "advance team" had actually gotten there after she did!

Tommy and I always laughed about this and so many other fun things that happened during that campaign. He was so much fun to be with, always with a great attitude and love of life.

Every body liked Tom Cadden from the first moment they met him. He left a great family, a good name, and an instant smile from anyone who knew him, whenever his name was mentioned. God rest his soul.

I understand that in legal circles Tom Cadden was considered a "Big Gun"; the caliber attorney one might retain when losing a case isn't an option.

Tom's wit was both reliable, and remarkably disarming.

It was impossible to not like Tommy Cadden and in fact I never heard of anyone who didn't. Indeed, everyone I know found him to be an agreeable fellow and an asset to most any group.

He'll surely be missed by more than anyone would guess.

To the Cadden Family
Please accept my deepest heartfelt sympathy for the loss of Tom. In high school together we accomplished much and had plenty of fun. The conversations were always stimulating, even, if not in agreement. We were the generation that was indestructible. Tom could always lift the atmosphere to the next level. Even my children have benefited from the stories I’ve told them of the times and adventures spent with Tom. Tom is already missed by more people than he could possibly think of.
Everlasting peace to you Tom.
