Thomas Gomberg Obituary

SOUTHINGTON - Attorney Thomas E. Gomberg, 60, of Royal Oak Drive, beloved husband of Karen Cornell Gomberg, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at his home.

Born Nov. 2, 1946, in New Haven, the son of the late Samuel and Gladys (Johnston) Gomberg. At age 12, Tom received his license to become a Ham Radio Operator, not an easy task at that age. Tom graduated in 1969, from the UConn School of Business Administration and in 1972 from the University of Suffolk, Law School with a Juris Doctor. He began practicing law in 1972 as an Assistant States Defense Attorney in the New Haven District Courts, he then moved to Southington to become an Assistant State Prosecuting Attorney for the Bristol Courts, M.G.A. No. 17. Before he retired he joined the firm of Roger Nielson. After he retired, Tom still continued to practice law in some capacity including Magistrate duties. In addition he was a long time instructor for the Paralegal Program at Briarwood College. Tom was a member of the American Judicature Society, American Bar Assoc., National District Attorneys Assoc., National College of Criminal Defense Lawyers and Public Defenders, Assoc. of Trial Lawyers of America and served as a Justice of the Peace in Southington.

Tom was brilliant in the courtroom, as well as an excellent instructor to his college students. He had a warm and uplifting personality and will be sorely missed by his many relatives and friends.

Besides his wife, Karen he is survived by his mother-in-law, Marion Cornell of Southington; cousins, Evelyn Kennedy of Fairfield, Brian Kennedy of Bridgeport, Maureen MacPartland of Hollywood, Fla., William Gormberg and his wife, Cheryl of Cheshire and Ruth and her husband, Atty. Al Weinstein of Southbury as well as other numerous cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Sandra Gomberg.

Fulfilling Tom's wishes services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Donations in his memory may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111 or to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450. Tom and I go back to the 70's when we first met in his court room. We discovered we both had the same interest in ham radio and from then on we became good friends. I would go over to his house and sit and chat in his workshop where he spent a lot of time. We did the social thing, ham thing and everything that was fun. Never a dull moment when you were with Tom. He was a great hobbyist and friend. So long Tom, rest in peace.

Such a tragedy to have this happen to a great friend. He will be sorely missed, but certainly never, ever forgotten.
