I met Tom at a small little bar in Thomaston, Ct. He knew the owner, Tony. Tony knew I grew up in Buffalo and introduced me to Tom. Told me some Buffalo Bills football stories. Lookie Lookie Here comes Cookie. He was referring to RB Cookie Gilgrist. He played his games at the o´l War Memorial Stadium, affectionately known as the "Rock Pile"
What a great guy to talk to. Very nice guy. Big deep laugh. It was an honor.

My sincere and deepest sympathy to the family of Tommy. Tom was a giant of a man to me, being a little girl. His great, and hardy laugh, I will always remember. He has been my dad's good friend for many years. Every time he came by, he was full of happiness and great stories of when he and my dad would get into mischievous fun when they were younger. Tom rest in peace

My deepest sympathy to the family of Tommy. I have many cherished, and crazy memories of our fishing trips together when we were young men. I was so proud of him when he was recruited by the NFL!! Tom, rest in peace and we shall be fishing again, my friend

Tom was a sports legend, along with his buddy, Bill Boehle were both great multi-sport athletes willing to spend some time with a young Record-Journal sportswriter during the late `70s-`89. Bill would relate stories of Tom´s NFL days, and Tom would talk about Bill. Neither one was comfortable talking about himself, no tooting their own horn. Giant gentleman and wonderful role model. Rest in Peace Tom, but may that unforgettable "Har-Har" throaty laugh live on forever!

I can recall Tom playing for the Meriden Shamrocks as Tight End and never saw him drop a pass. He caught everything that came his way. Quite a guy!

Perhaps the greatest athlete ever to come out of Meriden, Tom Rychlec was not only a great athlete but a great person also, friendly guy with that great smile and laugh. I was fortunate to have knownTom since his Meriden High School days when I was the football manager in Tom`s senior year.Although he was a great tight end he could as easily been an outstanding quarterback. I can recall Tom telling me to stand in the end zone and from the opposite 15 yard line he would throw a perfect spiral to me, yes folks, thats 85 yards in the air. We kidded about that every time we met.Tom won many awards in Meriden. one being named a "Sportsman of Distinction" by the Meriden Sports Reunion Committee in 1989, an award richly deserved and earned!
Tom Rychlec was an Icon in Meriden, he will be missed by many including myself. May his Soul rest in God`s eternal peace! My deepest sympathy, prayers and thoughts go out to Classmate Holly,Steven and Daniel.
Sincerely,
John A. Young
