Adelard Pelletier Obituary

Adelard Pelletier
February 8, 2026
Obituary for Adelard J. Pelletier
Adelard ¨Del¨ J. Pelletier of Island Pond, VT passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026 at his home after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 22, 1933 in Riviere Bleue, Quebec, Canada, the last-born child of nine to Thomas ¨Frank¨ L. Pelletier and Anna Morneau. He grew up in Canada working on the family farm, and, when he was old enough, he went to work in Maine where he was drafted into the armed forces. After basic training he spent his tour in Germany. Once he left the service he settled down in Connecticut to work for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and that is when he met his wife of 67 years, Claudine Sirois. He was an active member of his church, as well as the Knights of Columbus. When he retired the couple moved to Island Pond to snowmobile and to be close to Claudine's sister, Yvette (Leclerc) Weatherstone, and to the rest of the Leclerc family. He was a devoted family man, husband, and a friend to all who met him. Being quite the handy man, he was always the first to step in to give help to anyone who needed it. He was a very religious man who always put the needs of the others first.
He is survived by his wife, Claudine, by his sister, Theresa Pelletier in MA, by his three children in CT: Maurice Pelletier, Janet Yura, and Lisa Fontaine, as well as by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 11 o'clock at St. James Church, 146 Walnut Street in Island Pond, VT. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate Masses being said for Del by donating to Mater Dei Parish (for St. James), 191 Clermont Terrace, Newport, VT 05855, (802)334-5066. Dearest Claudine and family, was so saddened to hear of Del's passing. He was a kind and giving person. And now my loving brother and Del will be friends together with our Lord and family loved ones. Didn't have your address so glad to be able to send this message to you. May God give you grace and peace at this sad time. Luke and I love you, and hope to see you in the Spring.

Mr. Pelletier, as we neighborhood kids knew him growing up, was always even-keeled, kind, and quietly watchful — often looking at each of us as if to ask whether we were up to no good. In fairness to him, he was usually right.

Although I had not seen Mr. P in some time, I feel a deep sense of loss for someone who was such an important part of my childhood. In many ways, he served as my “other” Dad during those years along Elliott Street, and I will always be grateful for his steady presence, guidance, and care.

My deepest condolences to Claudine, Maurice, Janet, and Lisa. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Del and I were friends for around 50 years, couldn't have asked for a better friend, always ready to help , 30 years ago Del and Claudine came all the way from Vermont to South Carolina to help us settle into our new home, I could give many more examples of Del and Claudine's generosity. RIP my friend
