Timothy Washington Obituary

Timothy Washington, 64, beloved husband of Ellen Washington, passed away unexpectedly at Capital Regional Medical Center in Largo, Maryland, on Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Born on June 14, 1959, in Meriden, he was the son of the late Flora Lee Hicks. He attended Maloney High School and left school to join the United States Marine Corps. Upon his discharge he set out to get his GED. Never one to give up on anything, Tim then spent ten years achieving his goal of earning a college degree. In June of 2003, he graduated from Tunxis Community College with an Associate's Degree in Drug and Alcohol Rehab Counseling, earning a spot on the Dean's list. His degree and his own personal history would shape the remainder of Tim's life since February 2004. Tim was employed at Rushford Center, Inc., which is part of the Hartford Healthcare Behavioral Health network. Tim initially worked in a group home for kids. His current position was Case Manager Assistant, and he was part of the On-Call Mobile Crisis team. Tim's gifts to all those who knew him were his empathy, his good nature, his kind heart, his willingness to help anyone and everyone who needed it, his joyous smile and laughter. He gave those struggling with addiction hope, having walked in those same shoes. Every person he encountered was touched by his true goodness, a larger-than-life teddy bear of a man whose heart was so big that his chest could barely contain it.

In his spare time, Tim enjoyed traveling, spending time with his children, grandchildren, and quiet evenings at home. He was most happy when he was beating his wife Ellen at Tiger Woods golf or watching their favorite shows and movies. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he was on his way Sunday to see his very first NFL game; a happy father and son weekend planned by his son Tim Jr. Tim also loved game nights, poker nights, listening to music, dancing and family gatherings and cuddling on the couch with his kitties Frankie and Sunny. He was an active member of the Bristol Recovery Club and volunteered to chaperone Meriden's Project Graduation events, as well as Rushford's annual Suicide Awareness Day.

Besides his loving wife of 20 years, Ellen, he is survived by his sons, Timothy (Zoraida) Washington, Jr., Jacashes "JC" Mielec, Daeshaun Mielec; his daughters, Nicole Washington, Jona (Titus) Hubbard and Alexis Dingle; his sisters, Cynthia Ann Drain, Juliet Hicks, Deborah Washington and her partner Talibah Adeeba; his brothers, Larry (Nixa) Hicks, George Washington, Michael Washington and Brent (Kim Carlile) Washington; his step-sons, Kelvin (Stacy) Riddle and Marcus (Carrie Walker) Riddle; his mother-in-law, Jean Petit; his sisters-in-law, Suzanne Petit, Jane (Thomas) Lukowicz, Katherine (David) Bryant; brothers-in-law, Henri (Cindy Egan) Petit, Steven Petit, Robert (Sherry) Petit, John (Susan) Petit, William (Tracey) Petit, and his dear in-laws and traveling companions, Jeanne and Allan Pipkin; his 18 grandchildren, including his special buddies Mason Palmer, Alex Riddle and Trey Washington and countless nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Cora Washington. He was predeceased by his brother, Lester Hicks.

Special thanks to the first responders and the staff at the Capital Regional Medical Center for their extraordinary efforts to try to save our beloved Tim.

We were amazed, but not at all surprised, by the number of people who came to show their respects to my uncle at his service today. Tim has touched the lives of so many people and was deeply loved by all. We will miss him terribly.

Tim is my brother-in-law. He was a wonderful man and I´ll treasure every moment I had with him. I was so lucky that he was part of our family. And, he was a heck of a Pictionary player during game nights.
Life will go on but it will never be the same. I´ll miss you, Timmy Bear.

Tim is my brother-in-law. I treasure every moment I had with him.
He was a wonderful man who lavished kindness on anyone he met. I´m so lucky to have known him and have him be part of my family. And, he was a heck of a Pictionary player during family game nights. Life will go on but it will never be the same. I´ll miss you, Timmy Bear.
