Catherine Rathschmidt Obituary

NORTHFIELD - Catherine M. Rathschmidt, 98, of Northfield, died February 21, 2015 at her home. She was the wife of James A. Rathschmidt who predeceased her. Mrs. Rathschmidt was born in Kingston, NJ on March 23, 1916, the daughter of Murdoch and Agnetha (Johnson) Campbell. She graduated from Princeton High School NJ. Her first job was at Princeton University Library where she would occasionally see Albert Einstein wondering about. Kay was later the secretary for renowned Constitutional Scholar Professor Julian Boyd. When her husband became rowing coach at Yale University, the family moved to New Haven, CT. and she worked in the Geology department for Professor Washburn. Kay was a gentle soul with a loving heart. She moved to Northfield at the age of 88 and was befriended by many in the community.
She leaves a son: James A. Jr. of Northfield and a grandson Ben and daughter-in-law Nanci Dailey of Northfield.
A celebration of her life will be held at her home, 110 Capt. Beers Plain Rd., Northfield on February 28, 2015 from 3-5 p.m.
