Dorothy Whippie Obituary

ORANGE – Dorothy L. (Fowler) Whippie, 90, of 383 East River St., King James Court, died on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at home, following an illness, with family at her side.
Born in Henniker, NH, she was a daughter of Bruce E. and Myrtle L. (Corey) Fowler and grew up and attended schools in Keene, NH.
Dorothy was married to James W. Whippie, who died in 1970.
Living in the Keene, NH, area for many years, she had also lived in Troy, Hillsborough and Henniker, as well as on Cape Cod in Massachusetts from 1971-1984, moving to Orange in 1984.
A waitress for many years, she had worked at several restaurants in New Hampshire and on Cape Cod including "The Nook" in Henniker and the "China Maid" in East Wareham. She retired in 1984 due to illness.
An avid reader, Dorothy also enjoyed crocheting, but would not miss morning coffee with friends at the former Star Donut Shop in Athol.
Survivors include her children, James W. Whippie of Las Vegas, NV, Lawrence P. Whippie of Keokuk, IA, Bruce D. Whippie of Greenfield, Janis C. Houghton of Hillsborough, NH, and Patricia A. Hart of Leominster; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; four great- great-grandchildren, and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy was predeceased by a son, David A. Whippie in April of 1945, and half-brothers, Roy E. Fowler in 2003 and Wilfred E. Leslie Sr. in 2004.
There are no calling hours or formal services.
Interment will be private in South Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Dorothy's name can be made to the American Breast Cancer Foundation, Suite 332, 1220B East Joppa Road, Towson, MD 21286.
