Frederick J. Ackermann

1919 - 2013

Frederick J. Ackermann, 94, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on September 11, 2013.
He was born on June 9, 1919 in Greenfield, MA and was the son of Frederick H. Ackermann and Lillian Beauvais Ackermann. He was one of three children and is predeceased by sisters, Gertrude Ackermann Rogers and Elizabeth Ackermann Faber. He was married on September 29, 1940 to the love of his life, the late Wanda Zaneski Ackermann.
He retired from John's Auto Body Shop as an auto body mechanic. He was a Captain for the Greenfield Call Fire Department for many years. He was a Charter Member of The Elks Club in Turners Falls, MA.
Upon retirement, he and wife, Wanda moved to Virginia Beach, VA to be close to their daughter and family.
Other survivors include his daughter, Virginia "Ginnie" Ackermann Niedzwiedz and her husband, Michael; son, Frederick Joseph Ackermann, Jr. and his late wife, Elaine; grandchildren, Brenda Niedzwiedz Bedwell and her husband, Russell, Cheryl Niedzwiedz Valentine and her husband, Steven, Lynn Niedzwiedz Roenker and her husband, Steven, Robert Ackermann and the late Todd Ackermann. He is also leaving behind nine great grandchildren that he loved dearly, Joshua, Jill, Jarred, Jeffrey, Wesley, Jason, Brittany, Alexis, and Steven and a great great-granddaughter, Lillian. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, VA.
A graveside service will be Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 11 a.m. in Brookside Cemetery, with Jack Cooper officiating.
Local arrangements are under the direction of the Wrisley Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1832 Elbow Road, Chesapeake, VA.
