Robert Shaw Obituary
Belchertown, MA - Robert Louis Shaw of Belchertown passed away January 13, 2023 after a period of declining health. Robert was born in Greenfield on August 21, 1953 the son of Benjamin and Rose (Pfersick) Shaw. He spent his early years in Bernardston before moving to Monson State Hospital for care of his complex medical needs. Monson would close its facility in 2012 at which time Robert moved into a group home in Belchertown. Many former staff members from Monson would continue to be part of his wonderful care team. They provided him with a loving, safe and happy home. Some of Robert's favorite activities were annual trips to the Big E, rides around the Quabbin and enjoying all types of music. Robert will be remembered most for his persistence, his determination and resiliency. He fought through many illnesses and most certainly deserves to be at peace.
He is survived by his brothers, Ellsworth (Peggy) of Beaux Bridge, Louisana, and Benjamin of Bernardston. He is also survived by a sister in law Ginger Shaw of Vernon, Vt. as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, and brother in law May and Arthur Reid, brother Edward Shaw and sister in law Janie Shaw.
The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, therapists and caregivers that participated in Robert's care over the years.
Funeral services will be Thursday (1-19-2023) at 5:00 P.M. at the Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave. Northfield, Ma. The Rev. David Neal, Pastor of the United Church Bernardston will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in Center Cemetery, Bernardston.
There will be a calling hour on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. until the time of the service.
Donations in his memory made be made in Robert's name to the Second Chance Animal Services, 67 Mulberry Street, Springfield, Ma. 01105, a place that Robert enjoyed visiting.
