Brent Hornsby Obituary

Brent Steven Hornsby

Brent Steven Hornsby was born on May 16, 1961 and passed away on December 14, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. He fought not only for himself but also for his beautiful family, grandchildren, and many wonderful friends.

Brent graduated from Monache High School in 1979 and went on to study computer science and business at Fresno State. However, when his father became ill, Brent returned home to help his father and his father's twin brother with their farming and trucking business.

His biggest dream was to build a construction company, which he started at the age of 19 as a side job. What began small eventually grew into Hornsby Construction, Inc., a successful company that became well known in the Porterville community. Brent was particularly proud of the custom homes, track homes, and commercial properties he built. He had a brilliant mind for construction and was known for his attention to detail, ensuring everything he created was perfect.

In addition to his professional accomplishment Brent volunteered his time to support the local schools through the Pathways program, teaching kids about the trade he loved. Last year, he worked with students to build a tiny home, a project he was especially proud of. He also served on the school board.

Brent is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Hornsby; children Derek Hartsell, Darlin Moore, and Brant Hartsell, who together created a beautiful family. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Derek Moore Jr., and grandchildren Dixie Dean Moore, Denver Dean Moore, and Denim Dean Hornsby Moore, who brought him immense joy and pride. He is further survived by his brother Chuck Strawn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Velma Hornsby, and his beloved Uncle Ted.

A Celebration of life will be held in Brent's honor at the family home on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. Brent wasn't about being fancy, feel free to wear your favorite Nascar gear or construction work clothes or just a pair of sweats, whatever feels right. And be ready for a party! That is what he wanted!

My sincere condolences to Theresa and all the family. Brent will leave such a void in your family.

I haven´t known Brent for a long time and got to know him after contracting him to build our home. Brent made building our home the most pleasant experience and love the home so much. I continue to cherish my home.
