Edith Lorraine Mock

1915 - 2011

Edith Lorraine Mock age 95 and a 48 year resident of Porterville passed away January 8, 2011 in Bakersfield.

Edith was born October 31, 1915 at Lankin, North Dakota to Knute and Wilhelmina Halverson and first came to California with her family in 1940 when they settled in Los Angeles. Edith was attending the University of Southern California when a mutual friend introduced her to Ralph A. Mock of Porterville. She and Ralph where married in June of 1947 and remained residents of Porterville during their entire 48 years of marriage. Edith worked as a career counselor for the State Employment Service for over 20 years and Ralph was the owner operator of Porterville's R&H Market for more than 30 years. They enjoyed spending evenings playing card games with friends and were both very active in the community, especially the Porterville First Baptist Church where Edith served as the church secretary, taught Sunday School and was involved in both the Women's and Youth Ministries. Edith also volunteered at the Sierra View District Hospital, the local chapter of AARP and several other local senior groups.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph A. Mock and step-son Ronald Mock.

Surviving family includes her daughter Mary Munyon of Bakersfield and sister Marian Liddle of Southern California. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Chapel. Funeral Services will be 12:30 pm Thursday at Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Chapel followed by interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Porterville.
