I worked for Arlee from 1983-1991 when I served my apprenticeship and honed my skills as a sign painter. Earlier was great to work for, always with a sense of humor and interesting stories to tell. He opened his home every Christmas for all of his employees, complete with dinner and entertainment. I am glad I knew Arlee and visited him and his wife in his declining years as he didn't remember who I was.

To Lilieth & family,
My name is Gary Henry, grandson of Paul & Connie Selby from the old Nazarene Church. With my regrets of reading of the passing of Arlee. I'll never forget Arlee as our basketball coach fifty plus years ago. Always a great and fun to be with guy. He took us to play a boys reform school in Fricot, CA. We were completely overmatched with our team scoring a total of 2 points. Arlee kept encouraging us and we actually thought we were still in the game. He is well remembered.

I had the honor of serving a signpainter apprenticeship under Arlee in the late 70's, my father apprenticed under him in the 50's. I suppose he was Yoda to most of Stockton's signpainters for over 40 years
He treated me like a son & I loved him like a father. What he taught me in Stockton is now influencing the sign community in Seattle. A fitting tribute to a wonderful man.
