Donnie Moore Obituary

Donnie Ray Moore

May 4, 1956 - June 1, 2018

Donnie Ray Moore was born in Waynesboro, Virginia on May 4th, 1956. He passed from this earth on June 1, 2018 in his hometown of Stockton, CA. The second of five children, Donnie grew up in Hayward, CA, where he was a two-time All American quarterback. A football scholarship brought him to the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA, where he graduated with a BA in Physical Education. It was there he met his lovely wife, Cindy and they were married in 1982. Together they began a college ministry, Chi Alpha.

Donnie eventually transitioned into youth ministry which included speaking to over 3,000,000 young people through his anti-drug and gang school assemblies which garnered him the Governors Delinquency Prevention Award. In 1991, Donnie established Radical Reality youth camps, a summer highlight for kids from all walks of life. He was a beloved minister to churches all over America. He was also the Chaplain for the Oakland Athletics for 29 years, being a source of stability and encouragement for baseball players throughout the major league. Donnie was a sought after motivational speaker for High School, College and Professional Athletes. An engaging storyteller, Donnie loved to laugh and loved music. He was extremely generous and never met a stranger, befriending everyone he met. He enjoyed weight lifting, gardening and decorating his house for Christmas.

Above all, he was an amazing, beloved and involved father. He was a fabulous coach to his children's various sports teams. In his free time you could find him sitting in a rocking chair on his back porch laughing with family and friends. We know we haven't lost him because in Donnie's own words, "When you lose someone you don't know where they are," but we know where he is and look forward to seeing him again one day.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Cindy and their 3 children, Brooke, Anna and D.J. His mother, Alice Moore, his siblings Chuck (Peggy,) Denny (Sally,) Lorena Carr (Mark,) and Johnny (Mary,) along with many wonderful nieces and nephews.

His Celebration of Life will be held at The House Church, 1601 Coffee Rd., Modesto, CA on June 9th at 11am. You can watch via live feed at the housemodesto.com/live

Donnie and Cindy´s ministry at Chi Alpha led me to the Lord at UOP in the early 80´s. He is my spiritual Dad and I am so proud of the yielded life he lived for Jesus. He walked what he preached, the full gospel, a spirit filled life which he taught others to live uncompromisingly for the Lord he loved. I remember his courage to always obey the Lord. But more that, his love for all of us was so evident. How he loved and discipled us and enjoyed us so much. He was always full of joy and if we had struggles, he was right there to listen, counsel and pray for us. He made us feel so special. To this day, I remember him always greeting me with a sparkling eyes, a big smile snd saying "Nurriiiaa!" Love you Donnie. Can´t wait to see you again on the other side!

I knew Donnie from his early days as a follower of Jesus Christ, first as a student in classes at University of the Pacific. His first question to me: "Dr. Kelly, who is your Significant Other (the most important influence in your life)?" He figured to trap me into confessing my new commitment to Christ, but it backfired. HE ended up pursuing the Lord, and the rest, as they say, is his Christian history writ very large indeed. No one could minister to hurting youth like Donnie Moore, no one. He led millions to the Throne of God, and after I learned of his passing, I clearly heard our King say: "He's with me now, don't worry." Love him, miss him, honor him forever. Dr. Cliff Kelly

I'm sorry that we lost contact over the years. I lived across the hall from Donny and Joe when we lived in the John Ballantyne Dorm at UOP. I have been thinking of Donnie and hoping to someday meet up again only to find out that he is no longer alive. I am thrilled that Donny loved Jesus over the decades as I knew him before he was a Christian and then met him only once after he bacame a Christian.Praise God for a life well lived.

It is with Deep Sadness For the Pain and sense of Loss we all Feel But it is with Great Joy That the man of God Has Reached His Destination and Life's Goal of One day Standing at the base of the throne Holding Jesus and Jesus Holding Him. the Lord Saying Well Done My faithful Servant For I'm well pleased with you. I met Donnie at Horizon Community Church where Pastor Stan Russell is. I once Gave Him a Piece of cake He prayed with and for me many times and we were on facebook together. Blessed to Have Known Him and Reassured we will meet again in heaven. He once said Donnie uses Joseph to illustrate the power of a God-given Dream and shares that times and seasons, pain and setbacks, often precede the favor that God bestows in fulfilling the Dream. We have to live through the seasons, realizing that today's problem was included in yesterday's promise. God is Good All the time Our Pain and Tears May seem like that Last for years But Yesterday will soon Be gone and Our future will Live on and On with the King of Kings and lord of all. free of pain forever more, Love you Donnie and the Moore family. May God Bless you and Hold you tight in His arms everyday and Night.
