Josephine Gerlomes Obituary

Josephine Linda Gerlomes
Linden - Josephine Linda Gerlomes was born on November 25, 1933 and passed away peacefully on April 25, 2021 at the age of 87. Josephine grew up on the family farm and lived in Linden her entire life. As a young girl of 12-years-old, she started helping her mother cook meals for the Italian farm workers who worked on the ranch. This is when she learned to cook the countless delicious recipes that would be associated with her. She continued this love throughout her life, fixing daily lunches and Sunday dinners for family that would rival any good restaurant. She graduated from Linden High School in 1952. After high school, she attended Humphrey's College and went to work as a secretary for the local Italian Consulate at American Trust. During this time, she met George Gerlomes, and in 1954, they started their married life together. They soon welcomed a daughter followed by two rambunctious sons. Once her children were older, she started working at Farmers & Merchants' Bank in Linden where she held the position of Loan Officer for many years. Anyone who banked there knew Josephine for her friendliness and attention to detail. She retired in 1992 after 20 years, spending much of her time thereafter helping with her grandchildren. She was the best Nonni anyone could have asked for. In addition to cooking, Josephine also enjoyed gardening, canning, traveling, and making homemade salami and ravioli with family. She loved watching sports of all kinds, especially the Giants and Niners, and she was an expert mushroom hunter. Josephine was a devoted Catholic and long-time active member of Holy Cross Ladies' Guild through which she made thousands of rosaries to distribute to patients in hospitals and others in need. She was also a member of Liguri Nel Mondo. More than anything, Josephine's life was all about family. She was happiest when her family was happy.
Josephine was the daughter of the late Cesare Demartini and Maria "Masilia" Demartini, immigrants from Lorsica, Italy. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother John Demartini (Marie), her brother-in-law Babe Gerlomes (June), and sister-in-law Kate Nunes (Al). Josephine is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, George Gerlomes, children Lynnette Harrity (Tim), Greg Gerlomes (Jeanette), and Grant Girolami (Vikki); grandchildren Nicolle, Marla (Adam), Jennifer (Matt), Scott, Matthew, Jacqueline, Frances (Marcos), and Jeanette (Brian); great-grandchildren Philip, Madeleine, Emma, Nicholas, and Savannah, as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be visitation at Casa Bonita Funeral Home in Stockton (2500 Cemetery Lane) on Tuesday, May 4th from 3:00 to 7:00. Family will celebrate the life of Josephine with a Rosary on Wednesday, May 5th at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 18633 E. Front Street, Linden, CA. The committal will be private at San Joaquin Catholic Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church, P.O. Box 52, Linden, CA 95236, or a charity of your choice.

Dear George
I am so saddened by this. I stopped by your home today but no one was home. So, I decided I would give you a call and looked up your number. I saw this news about Josephine. You and she were special friends and I wanted you to know that. I wish I would have spent more time when I was a neighbor. Please accept my condolences. You and Josephine´s soul are in my prayers.

I knew Josie my entire life. She was always welcoming and gracious and my entire family considered her a part of our family. She was a very lovely lady and I enjoyed talking to her on the rare occasions that I saw her. She raised a wonderful family and lived an exemplary life. May God keep her in his loving care. My condolences to her loving husband and family.
