Charlotte Sherwin Obituary

New Windsor, NY

Charlotte Ann "Bma" Sherwin, a longtime resident of New Windsor, left this world on Thursday, March 11, 2010, in the arms of the angels.

She died at home in her soft bed, with her favorite cashmere blanket, after a short illness, surrounded by her beloved family: beloved son-in-law Kenneth M. Kijewski; beloved daughter, Susan Elizabeth Kijewski; beloved grandson, Brian Michael Anderson and his graceful lady, Sierra Friberg *; and her Earth Angel, hospice nurse, Nancy Duzick.

She was born on August 5, 1929 in Newburgh. A retired Library Technician at the Military Academy at West Point, she enjoyed working with young people and literature. She and her immediate family traveled extensively over the past ten years, everywhere from Gloucester, MA to Glastonbury, England.

She was predeceased by her loving parents, John Kenneth and Elizabeth May Kemble of Cornwall.

She loved and will watch over her beloved extended family members: cousins: Thomas and Jack Gayton, TJ and Mary Gayton and their precious children: Colette Gayton, Janet Puglia, Daniel and Catherine Walsh and their precious children of Georgia, Joseph Gayton and his companion, Bill and Louis and Delores Knoerzer of North Carolina. Also, her ladies breakfast club, Chip, Linda, Kimmy and her beloved Jeanie. A watchful eye will be kept as well on her son-in-law's family and children: Melissa, Kenny and Lauren Jean. May Christ, her savior, take her by the hand and deliver her to the peaceful kingdom of the eternal spirit. Her quiet wisdom will be missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, Charlotte's beloved family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550.

In honor of her life, there will be a visitation on Tuesday, March 16, between 12 noon and 3 p.m., at Quigely Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-On-Hudson. A short Christian eulogy will be at 2:30 p.m.

Arrangements entrusted to Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, Inc.; 845-534-9424. For directions to the funeral home, please visit www.quigleybros.com.

Dear Susan,

I am so sorry to hear about your Mother. She meant a great deal to me growing up and I often thought of her kindness, wise advice, and generosity throughout our childhood. Although we haven't been in touch for years, I feel a piece of me left and has gone to heaven.

My sincere condolences to you and your family,

Aunt Charlotte was a dear person. Growing up, she was the most glamorous person to me; my personal "Auntie Mame". Always with a quick wit, she was someone whom I always thought was ahead of her time. It also didn't hurt that she was the Mom of my favorite cousin. I'll miss you, sweetheart...

To Charlotte's family,
A gracious lady, with a terrific sense of humor. We worked together at West Point, but that was years ago. Rest in peace.
