Dominic DeFazio Obituary

Dominic Martin DeFazio, 84, of Marlboro, died Saturday morning, June 25, 2005 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus after a short illness.

Husband of Julia (Aurigemma) DeFazio, they were married on October 31, 1946 in Italy.

Born October 19, 1920 in Monteforte Irpino, Italy, he was the son of the late Francesco and Sofia Aurigemma DeFazio, and son-in-law of the late Vincent and Rose Aurigemma of Marlboro.

He was the devoted husband of Julia; loving father of son, Kenneth and Bonnie DeFazio of Naples, Fla.; and daughters, Diane and Dr. Douglas Eglauf of Mamaroneck, N.Y., and Ginny and Daniel Mrdjenovic of Highland; and the cherished papa of Shaun, Ryan and Rose Mrdjenovic of Highland. He is also survived by three sisters: Carmella Valentino and Tecla DeSomna of Montreal, Canada, and Antoinette Geraci of Waterbury, Conn. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law. He was predeceased by his brother, Martino DeFazio.

A family statement reads: "He was a family oriented many who had a large, giving heart that was centered around his family and friends, and was loved by all."

He was a teacher while living in Italy. Dominic was a Lieutenant in the Italian Army during World War II. After the war he moved to Marlboro. He worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie for 26 years, retiring in 1986 as Senior Analyst Specialist. He taught Italian in Adult Education at Highland and Marlboro Schools.

He enjoyed his garden, doing crossword puzzles, making his wine and listening to classical music. His grandchildren say he was the best bread and pizza maker.

We would like to thank Dr. Nicholas Bambino, all the doctors and nurses at St. Luke's Hospital, especially Shanty and Renata.

Visitation will be held on Monday June 27, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at The DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Route 9W, Marlboro, N.Y.
