Genevieve Thompson Obituary

Newburgh, NY

Genevieve Thompson a lifetime resident of the area, entered into rest on Friday, July 4, 2008 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. She was 93.

Daughter of the late Josephine and Joseph Rakowiecki, she was born on September 2, 1914 in Washingtonville. She was married to the late Duncan Thompson. Genevieve attended Syracuse University and was a bookkeeper for Local #17 for many years. She was a devoted and lifelong parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Newburgh and past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Newburgh.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Levin and her husband, Richard of Newburgh; stepson, Charles Thompson of Newburgh; beloved grandson, Brendan Smith and his wife, Katherine and their children, Abigail and Henry of Florence, SC. Survivors also include sisters-in-law, Frances and Julia Rakowiecki of Salisbury Mills; nephew, Joseph Rakowiecki of Salisbury Mills; and several step, grand and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her stepson, William Thompson and brothers, Chester and Stanley Rakowiecki.

There will be no visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 7, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 145 Benkard Ave., Newburgh, with Father John Vondras officiating. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, New Windsor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH, 45250-0301, Attn: Gifts Processing.
