John J. Messenger, 80, of Newburgh, NY died on July 14, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
John was born to Lorretta (Kinsler) and Herbert Messenger in Cornwall, NY. He is survived by Gail Messenger, his daughter Kimberly Rodrigues and her husband George, his son David Messenger and his wife MaryKay and their children Emma and Grace, his son Brian Messenger and his wife Christine, his daughter Kristin Cahill and her husband Patrick and their children Caroline, Katie, and Patrick John, his brother George Messenger, his brother in law Terry McAllister and his wife BJ and several nieces and nephews.
John's family was the most important part of his life and he loved them deeply. He was intellectually curious, an independent thinker, and an avid reader of nonfiction. He enjoyed music and playing his favorite oldies on the jukebox. He loved to dance and also enjoyed watching tennis and baseball, playing chess and going to Saratoga Race Track (predicting the winners based on math and statistics.) He worked at IBM as a computer programmer and once retired, never wanted to use a computer again. He was proud of his service in the United States Air Force. John will be remembered by his strong-will, generosity and dry sense of humor. He will be dearly missed.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday July 19, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 145 Benkard Ave., Newburgh, NY.
