Lori Mattingly Obituary

Lori Lynn (Lombardo) Mattingly, devoted wife and mother, died suddenly on Friday February 4, 2005 after a ten month battle with breast cancer - a struggle that she approached in the same way she approached her life - with grace, dignity, strength and optimism. She was 38.

The daughter of Joseph Lombardo and Elaine Pigago Lombardo, Lori was born on April 28, 1966 in St. Louis, Mo.

A graduate of Philippine Duchesne High School in St. Charles, Mo., Lori continued her education at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., where she earned a B.S. in Communications. Later, Lori completed the graduate business program at Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I., where she was awarded an M.B.A. Her professional career included serving as an analyst for Landmark/Magna Bancshares of St. Louis, Mo., a management consultant for Earnings Performance Group of Short Hills, N.J., the director of information systems for B-First Residential Mortgage of Warwick, R.I., and the director of information systems for Lefkowitz Champi Garfinkel & DiRienzo, P.C. of Providence, R.I. She regularly spent time in volunteer service at local senescence communities, schools and libraries. When her daughter was born in 1997, Lori made the conscious decision to postpone her professional career aspirations in favor of investing that time and energy in her family, a responsibility she lovingly undertook every day.

A family statement reads: "Lori's smile could have melted a glacier and her way made people feel like they were home, regardless of where home was. Her family was her life and her community was her world. Lori's spirit lives in her children and in everyone whose life she touched."

Lori is survived by her husband, Thomas A. Mattingly II; two daughters, Jordan Mattingly and Katherine Mattingly; and one son, Wade Mattingly, all at home; her parents, Joseph Lombardo and Elaine Lombardo of Surprise, Ariz.; a sister, Kim Sipe and her husband, Dr. Brian Sipe, of Homewood, Ill.; two brothers, Michael Lombardo and his wife, Jill Lombardo, of St. Peters, Mo., and Thomas Lombardo of Surprise, Ariz.; great-grandmother, Edna Lombardo of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; great-grandmother, Florence Pigago of Surprise, Ariz.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thomas E. Mattingly and Lucille Mattingly of St. Charles, Mo.; sisters-in-law: Laurie Dubay and her husband, Daniel Dubay, of Worcester, Mass., Lisa Merrell and her husband, Scott Merrell, of Leicester, Mass., and Angela Mattingly of St. Charles, Mo.; nephews and nieces: Nathan Lombardo and Ean Lombardo of St. Peters, Mo., Samantha Sipe of Homewood, Ill., Nathan Dubay and Sophia Dubay of Worcester, Mass., Scott Merrell, Sidney Merrell, Morgan Merrell and Mason Merrell of Leicester, Mass.; numerous cousins and countless other family and friends.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, Tuesday February 8, 2005 in Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, N.Y.

A service will be held Friday, February 11 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in St. Louis, Mo.

I have known Lori for so long that I cannot remember a time when she was not in my life. She truly was like a sister to me and watching how she lived her life was an inspiration. She did everything with such pride and poise . . . with things as simple as preparing a meal or cleaning the house to raising her kids and loving my brother. What I loved most about her is her laugh and I know she is in heaven smiling and laughing right now. God Blessed our family with Lori. All who knew her are fortunate to have been touched by her life.

I worked with Lori at LGC&D. Simply put, she was one of the nicest persons I have ever met.

I don't think I have ever met a person so smart, so loving, or so thoughtful and yet at the same time so unassuming. I think that's why people were drawn to her. She did have a great smile and and an even better laugh, I can still hear it in my mind and I hope I always will. She made me laugh. She was my friend. I miss you, Lori. Lisa

Lori planted beautiful seeds wherever she went. She not only formed friendships with those she met, but joined people together for lasting friendships.

She is and will always be an inspiration in her passion for giving and finding the best for her children and husband. When Lori would find something great or even just interesting, she would share and I was able to make my family better because of her.

Lori will always be deep in my heart. Our walks and talks will never be forgotten.

To Lori's family, we think of you often and our hearts, prayers and love are always with you.

Rest in peace dear friend.

Karen

I can not express how sorry I was to hear of your loss. I met Lori at a Gymboree class in Manchester, CT when Jordan was about 21/2 years old. She was the happiest person I've ever met. She had such a great outlook on life. I only wish more people could be like her. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. May Lori's wonderful personality and great love of life live in her children. I am so sorry for your loss.
