Dr. Peter W. Masi, 99, died Saturday, January 10, 2009 from natural causes at his home in Orlando, FL.
He was born to the late Antonio Masi and Alfonsina DeSanctis on February 13, 1909 in Newark, NJ.
Peter received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC in 1931 and his Medical Degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington, DC in 1935.
He married the late Lucille C. Knight in 1944, and made their first home in Wurtsboro NY, where Peter was in General Practice for a large rural community and also serving as county coroner, mayor, and chief of police. Peter moved to Middletown, NY in 1951 specializing in Cardiology maintaining a very successful single practice for over twenty years. At the age of 64 he passed the Florida State Board exams and relocated to Boca Raton, FL where he continued to practice Cardiology until his retirement in 1979. Dr. Peter was truly a gifted doctor who was passionate about his work continuing to stay current with innovations and treatments in his field. He always considered himself as one in service to the healing profession and kept a current medical license in the State of Florida even up to the date of his death.
He was a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology, a member of the Knights of Columbus, served his country through his expertise in Amateur Radio during WWII and Korean Wars; he served as an uncompensated doctor for the US Selective Service for 15 years, was a semi-pro baseball player and always an avid Yankees Fan.
Peter is survived by his daughter, Janet L. Herrick of Orlando, Florida; two grandchildren, Peter H. Smith of Washington, DC and Caroline M. Nosal of Herndon, VA, and four great-grandchildren: Lucy and Simon Smith and Alexa and Braedyn Nosal.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Boca Raton, FL. Burial will be held at the Boca Raton Mausoleum.
