Richard Bransfield Obituary

Town of Montgomery, NY

Dick Bransfield, a longtime resident of the area, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY from complications resulting from an auto accident.

He was born December 13, 1929 in the Bronx to Edward and Catherine Bransfield.

Dick left home at an early age to pursue independence and adventure, touring the world with the U.S. Navy and Merchant Marines. Some years later, Dick found his true passion in Optics and took great pleasure from his work as an Ophthalmic Dispenser. Most importantly, Dick pursued a vocation of rehabilitation and empowerment through education and touched countless lives through his work in the Optics program at Wallkill Correctional Facility. Although he retired from his position of Industrial Superintendant in 1999, he returned to Wallkill many times in subsequent years and delighted in the continued success of his program. Dick's superb intellect, sharp wit and boundless humor were surpassed only by his humanity. He was a best friend to many and will be greatly missed.

Dick is survived by his sister, Harriet McNeal of West New York, NJ; his son, Jackie Bransfield and daughter-in-law, Ginny of Storrs, CT; his daughter, Cathy Bransfield of St. Petersburg, FL; and by his daughter, Susan Bransfield and son-in-law, Chad Burkhart at home. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Billy, Ann, Ellen, Kathy, Raymond, and Tricia and their families; his grandsons, Richard and Edward; his close friends, Bill Cardone of Maybrook and Paul Cahill of Walden, and by his canine companion, Max.

Susan and Chad would like to thank Mobile Life, Alamo and LifeNet, as well as Dr. Lombardo and the staff of Westchester's Trauma ICU for the wonderful care they gave to Dick throughout his time there and for the kindness they showed to our family in our time of need.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 7, from 2-4:30 p.m. at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, NY, with funeral services following at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Fr Joseph Biliyock will officiate.

Cremation will be in Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh, NY.

Arrangements were made by Millspaugh Funeral Directors.
