Robert York Obituary

Robert J. "Bob" York
May 30, 1935 - February 1, 2019
Highland Mills, NY
Robert J. "Bob" York, with his loving family by his side, went home to be with our Lord on Friday, February 1, 2019.
Bob was born in Yonkers on May 30, 1935 to John Benjamin and Agnes (Vlasaty) York. Bob graduated from Commerce High School in 1953, a Skull & Key member, who lettered in several sports. In his graduation yearbook, Bob was known as 'greatest heart-breaker' – oh those blue eyes. Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, earning a National Defense Service Medal, being released as they arrived on the front line during the Korean War.
Bob met Marcia, the love of his life and they were married on August 15, 1959. He worked many years for NY Telephone/NYNEX/Verizon before retiring. Bob served in the Knights of Columbus; 4th Degree and Past Grand Knight in the Our Lady of Lourdes Council #5890, Washingtonville, NY, a member of the American Legion, The Elks, the Eagles, AOH, and was a Little League Umpire for many years.
Bob was an excellent card player, avid fisherman, and an excellent bowler in his prime, and his golf game never seemed to waiver. He loved strawberry shortcake, Burger King vanilla shakes, and IHOP country fried steak.
A kind, quiet, gentle man, who enjoyed a good time with family and friends; he will be sorely missed by all. Bob endured this undeserved suffering with dignity through God's grace. In recent years, he attended the Polish Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Monroe.
Survived by his loving, devoted wife of 59 ½ years, Marcia at home; three daughters: Donna York (and Ed), Robin (and Alan) Masiero, and Carol (and Robert) Blachetta; one son: James (and Judy) York; three grandsons: Richard (and Rachael) Dieckmann, Robert (and Gina) Dieckmann, and Ryan Dieckmann; two great-grandchildren: Ryder and River Dieckmann; one brother, John (and Karen) York; sister-in-law, Lynda (and Allen) Morris, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Robert was predeceased by his parents; his in-laws, Royel and Marguerite (Crosby) Ross; one brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Barbara (McCue) York; niece, Colleen (York) Hudson; and his beloved dog, Cherry.
In accordance with Bob's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, NY.
A Memorial Mass will be offered 10 a.m. Friday, February 8th at St. Patrick's Church, 448 Route 32, Highland Mills, NY 10930.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Fish of Blooming Grove, PO Box 58, Washingtonville, NY 10992 (845)496-7744 or Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc. 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550 or VA Hudson Valley Health Care, 2094 Albany Post Road, Montrose, NY 10548.
