I am devastated to learn of Stewart’s passing. Since leaving Consumer Reports for a new job in April, I’ve greatly missed our regular kitchenette conversations, where Stewart and I often met while foraging for Diet Cokes in the often empty (or broken) soda machine.

Whether updating me on his theories regarding “Lost,” delineating the reasons why “Enterprise” or "Bionic Woman" failed, or teasing me for my reluctance to pay for cable television (and thus catch “Battlestar Galactica” episodes on their original air dates), he was always a delight to talk to.

Stewart was also unfailingly generous, regularly bringing me his Coca-Cola bottle caps and box tops to assist my silly obsession with accumulating “Coke Rewards” Internet points, and he always inquired about my latest amount (over 3000 points, largely thanks to him).

For years I occupied an office only a few doors down from Stewart’s, where the Yeats poem on his door and his veritable wall of books revealed a soul far deeper than the ephemera of our pop culture discussions.

My deepest sympathy to Stewart’s family. It is my privilege to have known him. I remain one of Stewart’s biggest fans.
