Thomas Vetell Obituary

Monroe, NY

Thomas Edward Vetell, "TV", a 41-year resident of Monroe and formerly of Union Street, Brooklyn, died suddenly on Tuesday, April 20, 2010.

Son of the late Horace and Catherine Koehane Vetell, Thomas was born January 25, 1942 in Brooklyn.

Thomas served his country with honor and pride for four years in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Cuban Missile Crisis, Bay of Pigs. Thomas went on to proudly serve the City of New York as a Police Officer for 20 years before his retirement from the 20th Precinct. He was a wonderful husband, devoted father, and loving grandfather. He was respected and loved by all who knew him.

Thomas was a member of Lakeside Fire Co. for 41 years, and served as member of the Executive Board. He was also proud to be a member of American Legion Post #488 of Monroe, V.F.W. Post #8858 of Harriman, FOP Jason Conklin Memorial Lodge #957, Monroe, and Knights of Columbus Monroe Council #2079.

Thomas is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Arlene C. Barry Vetell. Together the two had 3 children who survive him: two daughters, Mary Agnes and her husband, Tommy Antonopoulos, and Kathleen and her husband, Mark Szynkowski, and their son, Thomas and his wife, Alissa Vetell, all of Monroe. He had four adoring granddaughters: Lauren, Shannon, Kathryna, and Katy. Thomas is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Menz and two brothers, Jerome and Daniel Vetell. He was predeceased by his older brother, William.

Visitation was held from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, April 22, with V.F.W. and American Legion services at 7:30 p.m. Second visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., today, Friday, April 23, at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 24, at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Rd., Monroe. Interment will follow in Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Craigville Rd., Goshen.

Dear Arlene&mary&tom&kathy&mark&tommy&alissaand 4 grandaughters. there was not a party or event that your family was not there always,you were like family to me. im so sorry that I did not know till last nite. my heart is crying today for your beautiful family, I would have been there no matter what the differnces between my son are I will pray for all the days ahead that you will have comfort and peace, HE was a great man and a doting grandfather.to mine as well. I will miss his big smile and always a hug from him... and Arlene your the best!! you are caring for so many and always a great mom, my prayers are with you all.
