William (Bill) George Higman gained his wings on September 25, 2025, at the age of 81.
Bill was born on December 4, 1944, in Frankfort Michigan, the son of George Higman and Edna Wyers. On December 4, 1993, he married the love of his life Jean Kay (Carter) Higman who survives. Together, they shared the best 31 years of their lives. Bill embraced Jean's children and grandchildren as his own and as the family grew, he loved and nurtured each and every one of them. He found true joy having meaningful conversations with his grandchildren and taught them to love diversity in today's cultures.
Bill served in the Army and when he was discharged, he found a passion for travel, photography and writing. He said, "If I ever wrote a book, it would be a little ahead and a little behind".
Bill is survived by his wife, Jean Kay Higman; Stepchildren Brenda Toppel, Amy (Todd) Cozart and Casey (Julie) Johnson; Sisters Susan (Dale) Westcott, Susie Cooper, Bridget Rockwell; Brother Patrick Higman; Grandchildren, Cory Bissell, Zack Bissell, Kyle (Cecily) Toppel, Kimberly (Cam) Parrish, Taylor Vickers, Olivia Johnson and Ava Johnson; Great Grandchildren Kaden and Carter Parrish; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Bill will be dearly missed by his family as he was one of their biggest fans. He attended concerts, sporting events, and was always a conversationalist at family dinners. He had a heart of gold and a soft spot for his family.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held on October 18, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Jowett Family Funeral Home in Benzonia with Pastor Rick Stieve officiating.
